Given that he’s already faced blood thirsty zombies and alien bounty hunters, and lived to tweet about it, if there’s anyone who can handle a Sharknado its Archie Andrews. SyFy Channel’s somehow hit crosses over into Riverdale for this one-shot release, bringing its love of camp and dismemberment right along with it. The result is a ridiculous read that no one was asking for, and that in itself is part of the fun.

Let’s start with the obvious – a great comic this is not. The story is ludicrous, the dialogue is terrible, and there will likely be a number of times where you wonder what it is you’re even reading. Simply put, its Sharknado put to paper. And that’s the pretty much the point; writer Anthony C. Ferrante shows himself to be right at home with the source material, no surprise given that he wrote and directed the three live action installments. He knows exactly what fans of the property are looking for, eschewing any natural development in lieu of wild set pieces, head smacking moments, and plenty of shark-on-teen action. The citizens of Riverdale prove a fine complement to this approach, Ferrante pulling from all corners of the respective universe to feed his gnashing swirl of nature. From Archie and the gang to Sabrina to Josie and the Pussycats, everyone gets a chance to shine, or at least get eaten.
