arctic .2ohm coils. Do they suck?

I just got an arctic tank on trade. I am very happy with its performance using the .5ohm coils.
However, the other day I went down to my local vape shop and bought a .2ohm coil, needless to say it was terrible.
It was completely primed with more than ten drops down in the wicking itself and after letting it sit for twenty minutes, I thought it was good to go. I took a hit at 30 watts and it was pretty bad. I waited another hour to let it sit and wick, and still got a burnt taste. I am using 60vg 40pg juice with a full tank, so thats probably not the problem.

Could they have sold me a knockoff? Anyone have a similar experience?

I have an Arctic tank as well and have a pack of .2 ohm BTDC coils in front of me. If you are using these, the bottom wattage is 30W. Are you using these or the BTC coils (bottom range of 20W).

I have not had a burnt taste out of these coils so I am curious.

I have some legit and some FT knockoffs - the 0.2 are barely tolerable at 50 watts on my iSticks 50 for either type - suspect I need 60 or better to really push them. The 0.5 seem to do okay at 40 watts or more...

It just popped it back in and tried it again. Its on my ipv mini 2 70watt, so I have plenty of power to push it. I started at 40 and worked my way up and it still tastes like shit.
Oh well, I guess I have a coil to gut and rebuild.

The .5 is perfect at 40watts.

When you say barely tolerable at 50 watts, In what way? Mine has an undertone of burnt wicking material at most wattages.

I get a harsh (yet still muted) flavor, weak cloud (my Subtank at 30 watts might do a bit better), occasional juice spitting and the same slightly burnt undertone...I'm gonna pop a 0.5 coil in and give it another go tomorrow now that I've completed enough of my move to have a clean area to mix some more liquid up - been dripping the last of "whatever's available" all weekend and through today...

I'm happy to report that they do suck, but it doesn't matter.
I learned that these coil heads are rebuild able.
A parallel 24ga nichrome vertical coil, 8wraps, .3 ohm @42 watts blows all the factory heads away.
Thank goodness for YouTube.

I also have an Artic and started using the .2 coils right away just because it was already in the Atty straight out of the package. I did notice the first day or so of vaping it it was a bit gnarly tasting but after that it should be fine and taste good. I think this is a problem with all the coils for the Artic though because today I just switched out my coil to the .5 and I am getting that same taste I did from the .2 at first. I think it has something to do with whatever they clean the cotton with before packaging them. Give every coil a tank or so for it to let that taste wear out.
P.S buy a Herakles. Lol

I got the arctic tank with a couple very lightly used, and thoroughly rinsed coil heads. They tasted great right from the start.
the .2ohm head was bought from a vape shop, and came right out of the blister pack. Tasted like shit, even after extensive priming and letting sit in liquid.
Conclusion: Having to vape a whole tank of juice to get a good taste is completely unacceptable. What is causing that shitty taste? Machining oil, burning wick, or something else? Whatever it is, it doesnt make me feel good about vaping it.

Im glad I found that youtube vid about rebuilding it. This guys build really works well.
Heres some props to him.

This is interesting. I'm on my 3rd .2 coil in my Arctic. It's still my favorite tank and the .2 could are my favorite in it. Never had a problem. The first one came from My Baker, and the last 2 came from a local shop. It's awesome anywhere between 65-80w for me.

I'm really sorry to hear that for you guys

I started on the .2's, I have switched recently to the .5 (Tank is on my GOD180, won't support below .3) and I have noticed much better hit and flavor.

I know, alot of people have had great luck with these coils. Hell, they are sold by every vape shop and online retailer for a reason . I just wont waste any more money trying to make them work (my $4 was enough :p)
Im happy with my tank though, which is all that matters. I just rebuild the four coils I have and they are much much better than the factory ones.

Thanks for posting that video, might actually look into rebuilding one of them. Yeah, having to vape a whole tank to get decent flavor is unacceptable. From what I have heard about the shitty taste is machining oil, either that or what ever they are cleaned with after.

It can be tricky at first, but its worth it. So so much better than the factory coils

I just tried an atlantis v2 with a factory .5ohm coil. IMO it blows the arctic factory coils out of the water.

I think this thread jinxed me. Put a new BTDC in the other day from the same package as the last one. This one tasted like shit right outta the package. It's gotten a little better but still taste like shit. Makes me sad. I like it with those coils.

IMO these coils need a tank or two through them to taste good. The Ni coils work well for tc mods and when I was using a vw mod I liked the 0.5 single coil the best.

I'll finish this tank and try another one, but none of the other coils did this. I like the .5's enough so I won't be getting rid of the tank. Just picked up a temp unit, so I'll give the nickel coils a go

The Ni coils last forever, I think I'm on my 2nd one in 3 weeks vaping all custard & desert juices. I do change out to a dripper when I get home but this and my orchid get my day use so there are a lot of hours put on the coils.

Make sure you're doing a spaced coil to avoid hotspots! I can't begin to tell you how much kanthal and cotton I've gone through just torching cotton.
