An asteroid measuring 3,000 feet (1 kilometer) across will pass Earth 6.3 million miles away (10 million kilometers) on Thursday, May 14 (Pacific Time).

Asteroid 1999 FN53 will come no closer than 26 times the distance from Earth to the moon on May 14.


Asteroid 1999 FN53 will be more than 26 times the distance of Earth to the moon when it makes its flyby, according to NASA. The body will make a return in another 119 years but will “not affect our planet in any way, shape or form.”
