Bad OHM readin and burned taste

Hello! I'm new to vaping, my friend helped me to order an e-cig. It is a Joyetech evic primo SE with an OBS engine nano (they're both clones). It always reads the resistance bad. When I insert the coil it shows 0.34, and when I attack the tank it goes down to 0.12, other coils 0.16, and so on... When I wick it, and start to use it gives a burned taste. This goes on since days ago, I'm very sad. :( Please help me, I don't know whats wrong... It's fine for my friend.

Your wire may be touching the tank around it when you put it together, you can confirm by testing ohms with just the deck on your mod, then again after screwing the tank back together (don't wick or juice it up)

If this is it, get your wire closer to the posts, away from the outside edges, or make the coils narrower

Welcome to VU and to Vaping, it gets easier!

P.s. I don't think there are any clones of your tank or mod, enjoy lol

Have a read through this thread and ask in there also wicking is key on the nano to avoid burnt hits

As meg said your coils need to be away from the posts and securely tightened maybe a pic of your set up would help us ...also details of the coil you are using

your coils are shorting. They are too big in one way or another. YOu need to use a smaller diameter or a few less wraps or adjust their position. The coil is shorting causing the lower reading and the burned taste

Thank you for help, guys! I'm so sorry for the late response, I have a lot of work to do. :/ I will post pics about my build and the coils! I'm using premade coils by the way.

When you mounted the coil did you dry burn it to make sure it’s glowing from the centre out without hot spots?

Also is the coil in that pic touching the posts (other than the legs you have secured)

Are both screws clamped tight?

That’s a chunky coil for the nano I suspect it’s struggling to keep up with wicking have you got something a bit thinner?

The screws are tight, yes. Should I use a thinner wick, or a thinner coil? I have no other coils, other than these. Yes, I dry burned it, was fine...

Have you tried screwing the Atty on another mod to test if resistance is jumping it could well be the mod itself that’s got an issue

Didn't try another one.. I tried another coil, and it starts to burn at the right side for a reason. It's now black...

Now, I somehow managed to get it done. It now burns from the middle (needed 3-4 dry hits), and used less wick. So, I guess less is more?

dont try and glow it with the wick in if that’s what you meant?

Dry burning means you test the coil heats up evenly after mounting it, clipping the leads away and positioning

You don’t wick it or do anything else until that bit is done you are checking for that middle glow without hot spots (don’t hold so long it gets stupidly hot just a gentle glow at 20 watts and release fire button) strum the wire with ceramic tweezers in between pulses until it’s working ...check screws after doing this too heating can cause them to losen

Have you ever watched a build video before? It might help show you what I mean

Wicking wise yes rake the ends to thin them out a bit and don’t stuff the juice wells tight ...once you feel resistence putting it in stop cut away the excess cotton

The cotton should be only just long enough to sit just inside

Yes, I watched videos about building, but they did with a tool and it immediately was orange. Maybe I just didn't listen right or something.

Well, now it looks good, I wicked, juiced the coil and wick. Tank back, resistance is the same, filled the tank, and now looks good. I'm sorry that I'm so unskillful... I'll get new coils and will master the building.

Thank you so much for your help! You are a very great group! If it's not a problem, I'll stay and learn from you! :) <3 when I'm better, I'll help for the other beginners too!

Oh, and one more help please! :) How do I know when I have to change coil, and wick?

Assuming it was wicking fine and everything ......You know that burnt hit you detected ...it will start to taste just like

Try not to confuse that with it not wicking well to begin with though, you should have at least few day’s of vaping before a re-wick is required

Also you don’t need to throw the coils away ...take the wicking out, heat the coil then quench them under water this cleans the gunk off the coil so you can re-use (just give them a brush up with a wire brush)
