BAFTA Film Awards 2022: Dune Leads With 11 Nominations, Including Best Film

The nominees for the 2022 BAFTA Film Awards have been announced — and Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic Dune is leading the pack this year with 11 nominations.


TV presenter AJ Odudu and comedian Tom Allen unveiled the nominations for the 75th British Academy Film Awards during a live presentation on Thursday. Dune led the nominations with 11 nods across various categories, including the coveted Best Film category, which also featured Belfast, Don't Look Up, Licorice Pizza, and The Power of the Dog.

Jane Campion's western The Power of the Dog secured eight nominations in total, including a shout in the Best Director category, while Kenneth Branagh's film memoir Belfast followed closely behind with six nominations. Licorice Pizza, No Time to Die, and West Side Story also received multiple mentions, earning five nominations apiece.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Will Smith were amongst those featured in the Leading Actor category this year, with Smith receiving his first-ever BAFTA nomination for his role as the father of Serena and Venus Williams in King Richard. Meanwhile, the Leading Actress list included the likes of Tessa Thompson, Alana Haim, and Lady Gaga.
