With Jim Gordon serving as the new, officially sanctioned Batman of Gotham City, it's only logical that his daughter would be drawn into his crazy new world. This new chapter of Batgirl continues exploring their first encounter and the awkward relationship the new Batman has with the unlicensed vigilantes of Gotham. The issue plays with a lot of the same tropes seen in superhero team-ups - the initial fight followed by the reluctant team-up and so forth - but adds just enough color and flavor to keep things fresh and exciting.
The dynamic between Barbara and her father is easily one of the highlights of the issue - more so than the presence of Livewire, who becomes more a means to an end rather than a compelling villain. The decision to contrast the current relationship between the two heroes with a brief flashback to a father/daughter moment works wonderfully to add emotional weight to the team-up. Meanwhile, see Barbara order take charge and order the new Batman around is a fun inversion of the traditional Batman/sidekick pairing.
