It’s amazing to think how important the first several issues of Cameron Stewart, Brenden Fletcher, and Babs Tarr’s Batgirl were to DC. Their run, originally only designed to be a fill-in arc, has been a large factor in influencing DC’s current output. That’s a hefty weight to put on a book that originally had no expectations. But, it’s a weight that the creative team continues to live up to, in their own unique, and occasionally bumpy, ways. This issue is as fantastic as ever, thanks largely to Babs Tarr.

In this (perfectly new reader friendly) installment, Barbara attempts to work out the kinks of being a superhero with her off-site, crime-fighting partner Frankie. The duo deal with the new robotic Batman and Barbara gets a chance to talk with her father. The conversation between Jim and Barbara is touching, and then ultimately heartbreaking as Barbara realizes that her father can’t bear to lead a double life behind her back. That scene is a series highlight and shows that the writers continue to grow.
