Ah, time travel, that finicky little bugger. Dan Jurgens and Bernard Chiang return our red-winged hero to his post Future's End future, dropping the new bearer of Beyond into an all new world. The resulting solo turn is solid, if not a bit formulaic, though the creative team adds just enough twists and turns to keep things interesting.With Tim Drake now at the helm, Jurgens wastes no time introducing his lead to his new Gotham. Issue #1 is heavy on the action as Tim faces everything from trigger-happy Jokerz to Brother Eye makeovers. It's a fine way to introduce the character, as Tim is forced to adapt to his new suit and his new world without the guiding hand (or voice) of an elder Bats. He also has to deal with his new cast of characters, some of which don't take too kindly to his sudden ascension to the Beyond mantle. These scenes serve as the highlights, offsetting the later dovetail into the read's more singular focused rescue mission. Said switch isn't in itself bad, but there's certainly a lot of convenience and luck to the narrative, surprising cliffhanger included.
