Chiming in here, even if the thread has been dead for a little more than a month at this point...
I was trying all sorts of vertical builds, but the end result was always the same. No matter how I tried wicking my vertical builds, I would end up getting less flow to the top of the wick, which ended up in a less-than-desirable flavor. On top of that, I also noticed that I would get the occasional leak out of one of the four air holes.
What ended up working for me was to run a single spaced coil (6 wraps) using 24ga kanthal, passed between the posts. Airflow isn't as much as verticals would allow, but I think this allows for airflow straight up through the center, around the coil, and up into the chimney. Flavor is now rich, even at 30-35W, and sometimes tops what I can get out of my authentic Plume Veil 2.0 using SS wire. Even my cheapie juices from a local shop now have great flavor, which is quite surprising.
