Time travel, androids, and a classic anime reimagining are just some of what you can expect this winter anime season. There's a new season full of anime to check out this Winter like the highly anticipated Vinland Saga Season 2, the video game-based Nier: Automata Ver1.1a, and some new adaptations of Junji Ito's work. We're also seeing the return of Vash after more than 20 years since the original anime with Trigun Stampede. Across Crunchyroll, HIDIVE, and Netflix, as well as others, there are a lot of places to enjoy anime at the moment.

Check out some anticipated series in the video above or the slideshow gallery below, followed by the full list of new Winter season 2023 anime in the U.S. and their respective streaming platforms. Anime listed are available now unless otherwise stated.

Tokyo Revengers Season 2 (Hulu)

The time-traveling drama, Tokyo Revengers, is back with Season 2! The series follows Takemichi, an indifferent individual who becomes depressed after learning that his former girlfriend was killed by a gang. It’s during this period that he discovered an ability to go 12 years back in time to when he was a teenager. Season 2 continues with Takemichi’s investigation of his former girlfriend’s death as he wrestles with the consequences of his actions through time. We look forward to seeing how Takemichi will push forward with new characters in play this season. Tokyo Revengers Season 2 is available now on Hulu.

Trigun Stampede (Crunchyroll, VRV, Hulu)

The Humanoid Typhoon is back after almost two decades since the original Trigun anime series back in 1998. In Trigun Stampede, Vash among other characters sport a new design in addition to a different take on the story. So far, this new series is already making major changes to how the ‘90s anime began its run. Studio Orange is behind the animation for this reimagining, and it looks to be in good hands considering their 3D work on Beastars. It’ll be interesting to see how the season goes with how big the changes have been so far. Trigun Stampede is available now on Crunchyroll, VRV, and Hulu.

Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre (Netflix)

Looking for a horror anime this season? Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre is the series for you this Winter. This series will be a collection of some of the famed manga artist’s work. Junji Ito himself confirms that 20 of his stories will be adapted into anime for the first time. If you’re still waiting in anticipation for the Uzumaki anime movie like we are, this series should help fill that need in the meantime. Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre is available now on Netflix.

Tsurune: The Linking Shot (HIDIVE)

If you’re looking for something a bit more wholesome this season, the sports anime Tsurune is a good option for you! The series follows Minato, a student who shies away from the Japanese archery that he loves because of a traumatic experience in his early competitive years. With the second season now here, Minato and the team look forward to preparing for the upcoming tournament after their last achievement. Kyoto Animation, the studio behind Violet Evergarden and K-On!, returns to work on the series and Season 2 looks beautiful so far! Tsurune: The Linking Shot is available now on HIDIVE.

Buddy Daddies (Crunchyroll, VRV)

Are you missing Spy x Family already? The original series, Buddy Daddies, might hold you over till we get Spy x Family Season 2 later this year. Buddy Daddies follows two assassins who suddenly took in a young girl under their care during a job. In addition, the girl now thinks that one of the assassins is her biological father! P.A. Works, the studio behind The Eccentric Family and Ya Boy Kongming!, is producing this new original title. Like Spy x Family, there is an unlikely family dynamic in Buddy Daddies, but this new series doesn’t let up on the violent assassin action so far. We are intrigued to see how these new dads adjust as the season goes on. Buddy Daddies is available now on Crunchyroll and VRV.

Nier: Automata Ver1.1a (Crunchyroll, VRV)

The anticipated Nier: Automata anime is here with Ver1.1a! The series takes place in a post-apocalyptic world taken over by machines. Enter 2B, the android protagonist tasked with battling these alien-produced machines. So far, the anime looks to be an almost one-to-one adaptation of the game with the first episode pulling directly from the video game’s opening sequence. If you haven’t played the game, this anime might be a good chance to experience the Nier Automata story. The series is available now on Crunchyroll and VRV.

*Note: Nier: Automata Ver1.1a episodes have been delayed due to Covid-19.

Vinland Saga Season 2 (Crunchyroll, VRV, Netflix)

The epic viking series is back with season 2! The series follows Thorfinn, a young man whose only purpose is getting revenge for his family. In Season 2, things have changed and we’re introduced to another protagonist who seems to put Thorfinn on a new path. MAPPA, the studio behind Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, will take the helm from Wit Studio on Season 2. MAPPA does amazing work so we hope to see great things as the season progresses. Vinland Saga Season 2 is available now on Crunchyroll, VRV and Netflix.
