A ton of different shopping categories see price reductions during Black Friday 2021. This includes PC parts. While GPUs are pretty hard to find and buy right now because of the chip shortage, this time of the year is a good time to future-proof other parts that power your desktop rig. This includes upgrading your CPU.
Alongside some discounts on some CPUs that have been released in recent years, some interesting discounts this Black Friday include Intel's new 12th generation CPUs. These processors were released earlier this month, and this is the first time these CPUs have received price reductions.
The Alder Lake line of processors are the first desktop CPUs that support DDR5 RAM and PCIe Gen 5. Additionally, the Alder Lake line introduces Intel’s new hybrid architecture, which mixes performance and efficiency x86 cores. The new CPUs also support Z690 motherboards and due to the larger LGA sockets, these processors will only work on Z690 motherboards. Meaning if you are looking to buy one of these CPUs during Black Friday, be prepared to upgrade your motherboard as well.
If you don't like Intel, not a problem. AMD has some discounts on several of its processors. This includes the Ryzen 5000 line of CPUs that were released last year. The Ryzen 5000 line introduced Zen 3 microarchitecture and are currently the latest CPUs introduced by AMD. Right now, Amazon has a solid deal on a bundle that includes the Ryzen 7 5800X CPU along with an ASUS TUF Gaming B550-PLUS Motherboard for $502.98.
