Letitia Wright has returned to finish filming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever after suffering a stunt accident that left her with a shoulder fracture and concussion.
BBC reports that Wright is heading to Atlanta, Georgia where Black Panther 2 is filming to finish her scenes playing Shuri, T’challa’s sister. Filming for the movie has not finished yet, but production was halted in November 2021 as it could not continue without Wright.
Details of Wright’s accident were initially described as a minor stunt accident, but a letter from Marvel’s Kevin Feige revealed that Wright’s accident was more severe than initially anticipated. There was also speculation given Wright previously expressed anti-Covid vaccine views.
Production on Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has now fully resumed according to a spokesperson, though plot details remain closely guarded.
It’s unclear how Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will proceed following the death of star Chadwick Boseman in 2020. The Hollywood Reporter says both Wright and M’Baku actor Winston Duke will have expanded roles in the sequel, and that Duke “negotiated a hefty raise for his return to Black Panther[.]”
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to premiere on November 11, 2022, and is one of Marvel’s numerous MCU offerings for the year. Other films slated to be released in 2022 include Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in May and Thor: Love and Thunder in July.
That’s not counting the many Marvel shows in development for the streaming service Disney+. In the meantime, check out IGN’s review for the last major MCU film Spider-Man: No Way Home.
