Full Disclosure and Transparency:
This RDTA was sent to me directly from Bombertech. This will in no way, shape, or form affect my opinion on this tank. As always my review will be fair, honest, and straightforward.
First impressions:
Tank came nicely packaged in a plastic cylinder type packaging. Everything is packed in there really tight so this tank should travel well when ordered. Unscrew the top of the packaging and you will find a nice looking tiny RDTA. At first glance it’s like, wow this thing is small. I really couldn't believe the size of it when I first held it in my hand. I have never seen an RDTA this small.
This thing is really well machined and smooth. Comes super clean out of the box with no oily residue or burrs. One wash and one rinse is all it needed to start vaping.
What’s Included?:
This lil RDTA comes with a bunch of goodies and extras. The tank comes assembled with, Top cap/DT, Sleeve, Deck Ring, Dual Coil AFC Ring, Plastic Tank Section, Deck, Base, O’rings, and the Regular 510 Pin. Extras include a 510 adapter, Two Flathead Screwdrivers, Spare O’rings, Spare Deck Screws, Single Coil AFC Ring, and a Squonking 510 Pin. There is no spare polycarbonate tank section.
From The Top Down:
Starting with the Chuff I have to say it’s a total fail. I like the shape and the way it feels when vaping but it needed to be longer and thicker. Really hard to chain vape with this cap. It get’s really hot while chain vaping even after just a few pulls. It’s easily remedied with the 510 adapter but this is something the Beta testers should have caught right away. I’m also not a fan of the plastic threading on theses types of caps. That threading will eventually strip. Spend the extra few cents a put some metal threading in there.
The dual AFC ring is fantastic. Extremely smooth airflow and the adjustability is smooth with a wide range. Wide open it’s right on top of the coil but when you close it down the airflow, especially for a tight draw the airflow only hits the corner of the coils. It also comes with a single coil AFC ring as an added bonus for single coil mode.
This brings us to the sleeve. The sleeve and top cap combine to make a beautifully executed conical design. The sleeve is notched and while it does a great job keeping it in place it contributes to the inability to move the AFC slot when you want to close it down. It would have been nice to have the ability to center my AFC hole after I close it down a bit. Not a big deal because I don’t think it hinders the fantastic flavor this tank gives but I have to mention it.
This tank has a gold plated velocity style deck with a little twist to it. In between the post’s is where you fill it. It has a pushdown valve that fills the tank thru the 510 pin. Pretty unique and innovative. It works really well with the needle nose type unicorn bottles and glass drippers. You can not fill this tank with the blunt nose bottles, it just won't work. Again, a small sacrifice to make for such an innovative design.
The post holes on the deck are not huge but that's to be expected because this thing really isn't made for monster exotic coils. You'll be able to run regular Claptons in it with no issues. I’m running Dual 2.5mm Claptons in it but in all honestly I’m pretty confident I could have gotten 3mm Claptons in there. The deck also has a peek insulator and the flathead grub screws are mounted on the sides. Not a fan of the flathead screws. I find it difficult to get a decent amount of torque and I would have prefered phillips or allen head screws.
The deck also has two pinholes on the base of it underneath where the coils are mounted. This allows air to escape when filling the tank thru the valve. It also has a single coil adapter that blocks off the wick holes from underneath the deck by clipping on to the post that houses the 510 pin. I've never seen this type before and it really works well in single coil mode. The shaft that goes from the deck down to the 510 pin is an engineering thing of beauty. You can fill the tank from the top thru the valve system or you can install the squonking 510 pin and you have a bottom feeder RDTA. Ingenious and unique, bravo Bombertech!
The deck ring has two nice O’rings that do a good job of keeping the sleeve in place. The tank part is made of polycarbonate plastic. Really disappointed in the decision to go with this material. Come on Bombertech, everything else on this tank is really high quality. Why skimp on the tank section? This section needed to be made out of glass.
The base is flat and thin. Probably could have done with a little knurling or texture to ease in the breakdown of this tank. The base screws directly onto the shaft that houses the 510 pin. Again well done and really nicely designed.
***Note*** This is very important. When reassembling this tank it is imperative that you screw the base on first. If you do not do this the tank will leak. The base needs to go on first so it can create a seal. Do this and the tank will not leak.
Building and Wicking:
Building and wicking this thing is typical RDTA style. You can wick it taking the deck ring off or leaving it on. Really makes no difference. I cut my cotton so it hangs just below the deck and she keeps up just fine wicking wise. Because the tank only holds 2mm of juice it does need to be filled frequently but the Genny tilt thing you need to do on bigger RDTA’s is less pronounced on this one because of its diminutive stature That’s where the squonking pin comes in. That's where this tank truly shines. Yes, that's right this RDTA comes with a squonking pin. This is the first time I've seen this and it's just pure genius.
But Deuces, How Does She Vape?
I’ll go on record right now saying this is by far the best, most flavorful RDTA I have ever vaped. Yes, she has a few minor issues but they pale in comparison to the quality of vape this tank puts out. Don’t let it’s size fool you this tank is a cloud chucker. She can chuck clouds with the best of them. The flavor, OMG the flavor is just fantastic. The best I ever have had on an RDTA bar none, and I have tried most of them. Right now I’m running dual SS 2.5mm Claptons ohming out at .25 at 58 watts in TC at 500f. The vape is flavorful, thick, lush, dense and absolutely heavenly. If it seems like I’m gushing I can assure you I am. This tank is that good. Just get it and you can thank me later.
I actually borrowed a friends squonker so I could get the full squonking experience from this tank. While she vapes great no matter what way you run it the real way to run this tank is on a squonker. Hell, I have never been interested in squonking but I’m buying one specifically because of this tank. If that doesn't say it all I don't know what does.
Conclusion:
What can I say that I haven't already? I love this tank! It's extremely unique and innovative. I've never seen anything like it. From the valve system, to the single mode, to the squonking pin it's truly a well thought out and designed tank. I love to see tanks and innovation like this. I would be all in for a 24mm or 25mm version. Bombertech does that with a glass tank system and an improved chuff cap and I'm telling you they will be instantly on the vaping map. Great job Bombertech, you nailed it, totally knocked it out out of the park. If you squonk this tank is a MUST HAVE! Don't walk, run out and get this tank. It really is that good. As if I'd have to say it, this tank is without a doubt DEUCESJACK APPROVED.
