The Labor Day holiday weekend represents an extra day off of work or school for most, but in Hollywood, it marks the end of the lucrative summer box office season. The movie industry typically defines the summer movie season as taking place between the first weekend in May (when many colleges across the country let out) and the Labor Day holiday weekend, and this year, Hollywood was looking to rebound from its worst summer since 2006.
