Built first coil. Vape good. Tastes burnt.

I built my coil just like the you tube for beginners showed. It shows .5ohms and 4.1 volts at 32watts. I primed it, let it soak for about 10min. Clouds great but yucky taste with undertones of my flavor. What did I do wrong?

a bit more info would help. Are you rebuilding the prebuilt coils or the RBA deck? What gauge wire are you using? Spaced coils or contact coils? Try lowering your watts in the 15-20W range and see how it vapes. You may need to replace the wick first though if you've burnt it already as that taste will stay until you change it.

Rba deck. Subox Mini. It's the coil that comes in the starter kit.

Bring the watts down like UncleMike said, you could probably go as high as 25w. Make sure your not over wicking and keep the wick slightly tight in the coil. You should be able to pull it back and forth with slight resistance. Start with a little lower watts when breaking in the coil for the first few hits. You'll get the hang of it eventually.

Ok. Thank you. I will try and let you know.

It looks like the coil is browned. Do I need to wrap another?

Make sure your coil is glowing from the inside out. Fire your coil and while it's still hot(NOT WHILE FIRING) give it a few gentle squeezes with tweezers or needle nose pliers. Use your little blue screwdriver(or metal coil jig) and kinda strum the coil like guitar strings 2-3 times after heating it up but not while you have power to it. that will generally get your coil to fire correctly. Good luck.

25 watts for the subtank is tops for me, but mostly 15-18'ish when I'm around 0.5ohms depending on the juice. Make sure you are not over or under wicking. Too much and it will not wick quickly enough and airflow may suffer causing dry hits. Too little and the subtank tends to spit juice. When I first started with this tank I did both. New wicks take a few draws to fully fill with the flavor. Before re-wicking try to dry burn the coil, and then while it is still warm, carefully rinse it (while holding it sideways) with a very small amount of running water just on the coil. You'll be surprised how much crap comes off just doing that especially being that new.

After trying both coils for rba that came in the Subox starter kit I got same nasty taste. I wrapped my own using my own wire and it hits beautiful. I am so mad at Kanger tech. Both atomizers and both pre wrapped coils for rba were junk that came in the kit.

Glad it was an easy fix!
Shark, the "strumming" really helps to get that final tweak. It works especially well for some reason on Claptons.

Ok. Well I take back being upset at Kanger Tech. I'm sorry Kanger tech. After some investigation I found out my Subox is a counterfeit. That's y it works like crap because it is. The guy said he will refund my money. Ill be waiting to see the pigs fly. Because he was so honest about the product he sold too.

Go watch Rip's pancake wicking method. That will fix your problem.

I had the same problem with my authentic mini (tank only). In my case the crappy little screwdriver could never got the leads tight enough on the RBA section. Once someone at my local shop quickly figured it out and used a longer screwdriver to get a little more torque, it holds rock solid. A cheap set of precision screwdrivers has been one of my best investments. Do the ohms jump around with the OCC coils as well if you got them in the kit? Just a thought...

The ohms jump on the rba deck. It will go from 9.9 to flashing 0 to.6 ohm in seconds.

Yep. I did. I made sure they were all lighting and pushed it a couple times to get the crud off them.

Had same problem in beginning. Kept thinking it was my rebuilds. Stopped using all chinese wire. Now only use North American brands but won't buy cheaper same brand deals for 1/3 price on ebay. Spend a bit more and buy a white wheel of 30 feet. Quickly horrible taste left.

Don't like clones personally.
Think they are better for those with experience rebuilding due to some flaws.

check to make sure that there are no hot spots on the coil. that usually causes a dry hit type taste and feeling.
