Captain Marvel #17 features a brawl for the ages as Captain Marvel takes on the newly appointed All-Father of Asgard, Thor. This story is being touted as the “Dark Captain Marvel Saga” a la The Dark Phoenix Saga, so it was a given that things were going to get dark, but nobody could have predicted the grim way their bout ended.

The issue kicks off with Carol Danvers sucker-punching Thor and attempting to kill him. She’s dressed in a new black-and-red costume with a mask that completely covers her face, and after Thor wallops her in the head with Mjolnir and her mask flies off, he’s shocked to see that his fellow Avengers teammate is the one assaulting him.
