Midwest cable and broadband provider Charter Communications has agreed to buy Time Warner Cable for $56.7 billion. Charter has also entered into an agreement to purchase Bright House Networks for $10.4 billion.
If approved by the FCC, all three providers would merge into one company called New Charter, selling services under the name Spectrum. More importantly, New Charter would become one of the top television and internet providers in the US, affecting one in six households, putting the company in the same league with Comcast, AT&T, and Verizon.
