Looking to try a bit of DIY but I don't want to invest too much until I try it out. Can anyone tell me how I can get started in DIY as cheap as possible? Maybe a shopping list? :)

Cheap as possible will involve headaches.

The EASY and less expensive way to try out DIY, is to order a small kit with everything in it.

I went headlong into it and bypassed buying a kit.

For myself, I think I am up to about 140 mils a week I make.

I've seen a few of the kits posted around. Is there one you would recommend?

I've never bought one, so nothing I have experience with.

ECX is where I buy most all my flavors. Bought a few liters of nic from My freedom smokes. Either of those companies should offer kits. Both are good to work with.

Just starting out, you'll need nicotine, VG and/or PG, your flavorings, and a few different sized syringes blunt tip needles for them. If you have empty vendor juice bottles, clean those out for reuse.

I get all my nicotine, VG, and flavorings from Bull City. For the syringes, maybe start with a 1ml and a 10ml. Can't recall where I got mine way back when, but they may well have those at Bull City as well.

Do you have a specific recipe in mind to try out, or were you planning to just try some single flavors? What kind of vendor juice are you into now?

I wouldn't buy a kit, too much of it isn't needed. As havoc said, take a look at Bull city. Or ecigexpress. And a calculator. I like ejuicemeup, and it's free.

I mostly like custards or fruit+cream

Looks like myfreedomsmokes is local to me, I wonder if they have a walk in shop.
Wow, didn't realize they were so close! No idea if they have a b&m you can purchase from, but if so would be quite convenient.

I will say that FlavourArt has very good, realistic fruit flavorings. All the various creams I've tried this far are excellent as well. Not much of a custard guy so others can perhaps help better with recommends for that.

Mixing can be a fun little hobby, and save quite a bit of cash considering how much vendor juice costs. Just start with small batches til you find what you like. Sometimes when I'm trying some new flavor idea, I won't even add any nic to it.

Screw the kits. They are rip offs just like "starter kits" are. Selling you a bundle of stuff at prices higher than if you just bought the same stuff individually. Take a look around Wizard Labs or other DIY stores and get some nic, pg, vg and flavoring, and a few items to measure and mix them with and you're all set.

I got started with a few used/washed vendor juice bottles, a couple 1ml syringes, a couple more 10ml, a bottle of vg, bottle of pg, bottle of nic, and a couple dozen sample flavors froom Bull City. Had to keep adding flavors to get to the $75 free shipping threshold, but I got a lot. Put in a second order after a few weeks once I knew better what I liked, and now with about $160 invested I've already made my money back and have enough supplies to keep me and the wife in juice for another 2 months, meaning I'll be at least $200 in the black before my next order.

YMMV, but I say skip the "kits" and just order the basics and spend your excess cash on flavors...

I did not start with a kit, but it does require a good amount of research and shopping around. Good idea to start small. Don't buy giant bottles of flavoring, nic, or pg/vg, until you think or know DIY is for you. Buy the smallest bottles of flavoring you can and only buy flavors you think you may like. That is my advice anyway. Don't have to spend a lot of money to get into DIY, though you may find it something of a money pit later on. Heheh.

You'll wanna buy more eventually, but for $2, Nude Nicotine will send you a 15ml sample of their very good clean nic. If you get the 100mg concentrate and mix at 6mg, that's enough to make 25 10ml bottles of finished liquid!

I know personally I went to town on the TFA flavors from Wizard labs, but quite a few of those are collecting dust. I've gotten way more mileage out of FA and ECX (those lines have their duds too, of course, but a higher percentage of useful flavors, definitely!). And the concentration matters too- these lines are more consistent and concentrated, and easier to work with right off the bat. I also haven't tried Vaping Zone, but I know they make super concentrated flavors as well and there are folks here that swear by them. Hope that helps!
