Cleaning new tanks before first use ?

Does anyone think its important to clean their stuff before first use ?
Although it all looks nice shiny stainless etc, which would give the impression of 'hospital grade', I dont imagine there's alot of concern for washing parts off before they leave the factories..

Could there be milling residue ? Oils from production or for shipping protection ? Just regular gunk from handling during assembly/boxing ?

Would 99% alcohol on a q-tip be enough for a quick wipe of coil and tank ?

I always clean a new tank and drip tip before I use them.

I made the mistake of not cleaning a clean looking tank once. That was enough for me, LOL. You may get differing opinions, but I use dish soap to cut grease or oils, then rinse REALLLLY well.

Its a good idea to at least give it a good wash. Even if its been supposedly cleaned with an ultrasonic bath before shipping, its been handled by "who knows who's hands " :blech:

I can vouch that this experience is a real danger. In other words, vaping machine oil really sucks.

Washing them several times doesn't always work for getting rid of the machine oil taste.
Even totally stripped down and using a UC, alcohol, denture cleaner, vinegar, Dawn, etc.
Finally gave up and put it back in the box, lol.
By all means wash it at least once anyway.

I will not be the one to say I always clean each little part of a new tank, I'm guilty of tearing the wrapping, pop in a coil, get the wick juiced, fill the tank, fire it up and... aaaahhhh! enjoy the vape from a new tank.....Most times I do clean new tanks in ultra sound + hot water + dawn concentrate. Make sure the threading is really clean and there's no machining residue/burs. In reality, all you'll need is to experience the taste of heavy machining oil in your vape once, then, you'll probably clean and double clean everything... I'm pretty sure we've all done it at least once, but it is better to learn good habits.

I break all my new tank buys into bits and wash them with dish soap, scrubbing with a small brush. I've tasted the machine oil a long time ago in a dripper I received and used without washing.....never again. I also break down my tanks and wash with soap every so often once the juice begins to taste stale in the atty to cut the oily residue that hot water alone doesn't remove. I can honestly say I've never had a oring related leak in any of my tanks for ages now.

Get a small plastic bowl and put rubbing alcohol in and swish it around for a few minuets. It will break down all the oils and it will sink to the bottom of the bowl. Its amazing how much oil is left over when you are done. I usually do this twice and it works perfectly every time.

I used to use that method - until it didn't work. Was my second time vaping machine oil. First time was from not washing at all.

Have religiously broken down and soaked in dish soap with a water and then alcohol and water again rinse.

After vaping one tank in my new Cleito w/o washing it, i gave it a scrub and alcohol rinse. In the future, all will be washed.

No one really specified, but I assume you dont 'wash' your coils ?
I soaked mine in 99% alcohol, dried, blew thru it many times, primed it up and crossed my fingers that I wouldnt get a mouthful of flames.. but it was good.. lol.

Im not sure what dishsoap and/or the alcohol might do to the cotton ?

I don't wash those. But used ones can be soaked in vodka for reuse with different flavors if you want

I wash that tanks but never the coils. Only ones I've ever ran across with a problem is TFVF. All the coils I bought (except the claptons) had a horrible machine oil taste. That was enough for me to sell the tank.

I used to always just rinse with soap and water but I've had on multiple occasions had the machine oil taste even after washing. I have found that you have to take every little part and wash and soak. The biggest culprit i have found is screws and screw holes. Especially the ones on the deck if you don't remove the deck screws before soaking and washing the oil taste wont go away.
