Cleansing of used prebuilts....

I'm unsure as to where I noticed someone recommending cleaning out used prebuilt atomizers with hot water and letting them air in the sun on a ledge for a bit but whomever it was I have to thank you. I've nearly run out of cotton for my builds and won't be getting any for another week - so I decided to take their advice and might I say, it's worked fantastically. Someone somewhere told me never to use water on your prebuilt atomizers as it ruins them; well I'm sitting happy after cleaning out all of my .5ohm coils from my subtank mini, my subox, and the two I randomly bought one day (one vertical the other horizontal). The flavor and vapor production has been unexpectedly phenomenal and I'm extremely pleased with the results. So once again, I give many thanks to the person responsible for getting this idea into my head because the results are wonderful [:=

hot water and letting them air in the sun on a ledge for a bit

That's literally all I did. I made sure whilst washing them individually with running water (and slightly burning my hands) to take care not to damage the coil within and to be very gratuitous with the amount of water used. Afterwards, I used a dry cloth (papertowl, tissue etc) and gently blew into each one of them so as to help quicken the drying process. Then I placed them on a ledge with the sun shining on them for a few hours (rotating periodically) until I was more than 100% certain they were completely dry.
Also noteworthy: I've been storing my old prebuilts in such a way so as they won't dry out using sealed plastic.
To anyone attempting this as well - good luck and happy vaping [:=

Update: I've just located the aforementioned post
I've had the same OCC coils in rotation since I've gotten my Subtank Mini. When I change flavors I just wash the coil out with hot water and vape until the flavor comes through. The things last forever. Wash one, blow out the water, set it on the windowsill in the sun until I use it again. I had a Delta II before this and I'd be going through a coil every 2 tanks.
Thank you so much CloudySkies - this has been a great help!

Reminds me of the old Cartomizers. People were cleaning them either with water, or soak them in Vodka before rinsing. After that drying them by letting them sit for a day or two. Some went as far as placing them in the oven at low temp, or utilizing a hair dryer.

Honestly, I had thought about the hair dryer but didn't attempt it..... Maybe I'll try both the oven and the hair dryer methods lol

You don't even have to let them dry first as long as you don't mind the first half dozen hits being just water vapor. Until the juice starts saturating the wick, which it will as the water vapes off, you're good to go. I usually only throw my OCC coils in when I'm halfway through a build on my RBA and have to go somewhere.

Thanks for the tip! I thought semi damp could be damaging to my box mod

Update: just tried it - only three flavorless hits then perfection immediately afterwards!

Back in the day (and sometimes still today if I'm making a drastic flavor change and haven't used up my coil) I'd do a day soak in cheap vodka, an hour soak in hot water out of the tap, and a day's rest to dry out. Not as good as a new coil, but good enough for me.
