I usually build my coils at 3mm inside diameter and was wondering what to expect if i tried a 2.5 or a 3.5 diameter.

I know the resistance will change slightly. Im usually .15 to .25

Im new to building just like to know what to expect vape wise with the different id.
Thanks in advance

3,5 will take longer to hit up, with that being said it will give a longer steady draw depending on ur wattage!!
2.5 is a little bit quicker to ramp up depending on ur wattage...
My bottom RTAS used 2.5
My Genny style RTAS uses 3.0
My RDAS are 3.0
It really depends on what satisfy you

To a large extent, what @ej1024 said. Steam Engine is your friend. 3.5 ID is pretty big - I've never gone over 3.0 - wonder if that might be overkill given the amount of wick you'd have to stuff in.

Assuming you maintain the same OHM rate. The larger id coil will hold more juice in the coil. The smaller id more wraps
In my experience coil ID has NO affect on ramp time or heating speed.

For me Coil ID is all about space wicking and ohm. I almost always start with 2.5mm. I get dry hit I try 3mm next time. get too much spitting maybe try smaller id or more power. The higher the OHM or lower the power the smaller the coil can be.

At the ohm rate and with the wire sizes I assume you are using... I think I would be looking at 3-4mm for a coil ID range. i vape a .5ohm or higher. I tend to use bigger then 2.5mm at ohms below .7ohm. If I were to do a sub .5ohm build, I would start with a 1/8" drill bit and plan for the next to need a bigger ID.

Thanks for the info all.....just vaping on a boreas using twisted 24ga SS usually around 55 watts. I relize i can go bigger and smaller so i just wanted to see if i should make some other size to get better flavor or different vapor
Thanks again

For better flavor I would run the smallest id, I could, to get the most wraps and maximize coil to wick contact area.
As long as you don't want more than 20 watts. With his coil and ramp up time 20 watts won't cut it but I guarantee flavor is there.

Try a 10 wrap 24g ss316l on a 2.5 ID non twisted. You can do duals if you want.

I tried a few 2mm 9 wrap coils I made, but found that they burn and break the wick where it comes out of the coil on each end. This happens after about a day..They do heat up fast and I checked them for hot spots and found none. The coils fire up evenly before I wick them..
I think it is just the cotton is too tight and I've tried a smaller amount of cotton and that seems to burn even faster.

Right now I'm using my 3mm 6 wrap coils in my KangerTech RBA and they last much longer. I'm using a Subvod Mega TC.
The original SSOCC coils actually have about a 4mm coil in them and they last a long time in my Mega. I just don't think there is enough room in the RBA coil to put a 4mm coil..It would be VERY close to the terminals..

So all in all IMO on the Subvod, the bigger coils work better and they fire pretty fast using 26g NC80 wire.

Bigger diameter coils will provide more vapor. 3.5's are my favorite. Just crank er' up ;)

More wraps gives more flavor.

Best coil I'd is that which balances all you needs clouds vs flavor vs wicking vs wattage... ect.

I really never noticed a difference. 5-10 wraps. All tastes the same to me pretty much. But I've noticed a mech produces better flavor with a 5 wrap dual with nichrome. Compared to a 10 wrap regulated device with kanthal. That's just me though.

I've been using 4.2mm id with a single coil build, seems to be working ok with 28ga ss316L. No dry hits that's for sure. I've usually got another good 6-7 hits or more after the tank runs dry. Guess I just like the ease of sticking my wick in a big hole lol.

In my mechs, like a smpl mod, I use a 2.5 ID 22g kanthal 7 wrap. Comes in at 0.37.

i was using vertbraid 30g SS 316l at 3mm in my griffins
i just switched to 4mm id 2x28/32 316l claptons in them
cant say i notice much difference flavor wise.. but now i can run at slightly lower watss
it does take a hair longer to heat up though

I switched to a larger id for the simple reason of more ohms
i have a dime box mod that needs to be above .3
a d2 that needs to be above .2
the rest can fire at .1

but the vertabraids at 3mm were all around .14
so i wanted to have all my tanks be able to be on any mod at any time without worrying about if it will fire or not
so bigger ID more ohms
