Typically coil longevity is determined by the juice you're vaping and high hot you're firing. Safety is something that you're gonna have to research yourself and make your own determination. Everyone has an argument on which is which; the one constant is that its "harm reduction" not "removal" in other words its safer than smoking but its not safe.
Back to longevity, depending on juice you ma get a week or you may get a month. When it starts tasting funkerated that's when its time to swap out.

Like f1r3b1rd said, taste is a good indicator, but also the look. Once a coil is worked in it'll have a certain color and it'll be that way for a few wicks, once that changes again you're going to want to make a new coil. I haven't worked with Ti but Kanthal will go from that shiny metal to a duller grey to a black and then once it's strait black or if it starts to look rusty/brown it's time to replace. At least that's how I decide.

If you have plenty of wire/cotton, I rebuild mine every week or so.

You don't have to replace the coil when you're starting to get less flavor or burnt taste. You could clean them.

Get the cottons out from the coil, fire it up till coils are glowing, dip the coils in water(without pressing the "on" button on your mod), fire it up again so steam can clean the coils more, dip it a few times, steam it and re-wick your coils. Simple. Recycle your coils.

i advised you not to do so with ni or ti coils this is only a kanthal coil suggestion

@tomasaki the op said it was a Ti coil you are not meant to dry fire them. you can remove the cotton and replace with fresh if you can reassemble them thou

Is it ok to rinse a titanium wire? My friends told me that its not a good thing for ti to be rinsed..

It's ok to dry fire, and/or rinse. However, you want to get rid of any oxidation on the wire (grayish, whiteish color). The oxidation on Ti wire is what scares people off from using it. Similarly the scare of Ni200 wire, it might desolve into the liquid, and evaporate from there. However, even if either oxidized Ti or Ni200 would be in your vape, the amount would be hard to measure. That's how little it might be. In addition, considering what we used to inhale when we were smoking, and never bothered thinking about it, I think, either one of these wires is good for vaping.

You have the Evic VTC mini? Have you upgraded the Firware to V.2.0? With it, you have TC for stainless steel (SS) wire. Works excellent with the Crown and it's "regular" replacement coil heads, due to being SS.

For a guideline on how many wraps you'll need for a certain resistance, check out http://www.steam-engine.org/coil.asp. In general, the more surface, the more vapor, the more flavor.

I build some SS dual coils for my Cthulhu V2, and running it on either my VTC Mini, or my Reuleaux DNA200. The wire I used was the 26g UD 306L wire. I personally prefer using the SS wire over Ti and Ni200.
