Coil Tools & Authenticity?

Watched Busardo rebuild the RBA on a Kanger subtank and thought that looked pretty easy. He used a Coil Master. So, if I get into rebuilding, that is the coiling tool I think I want. (I'm willing to listen to any arguments as to why that might not be an optimal choice, btw.)

Here's the deal: Few stores appear to carry them, and, of those that do, they're all the full kits. I don't need the full kit. I've been into electronics since the Dawn of Time. I have just about every kind of wire cutting tool you can imagine, and some you might not. Grabbers, grippers, tweezers, what-have-you? Got 'em. In spades. (Yeah, ok: None of 'em are ceramic-coated, but... really?) Multi-meters? HA! Got three of 'em. (Plus one that expired about three years ago. One of the living ones, my oldest one, actually has a big analog meter.)

So... eBay to the rescue? But then I notice they're all "AUTHENTIC!" Even the one who, while claiming to be "THE ONLY AUTHORIZED ONE," both misspells Coil Master's domain name and lists the wrong number and sizes of mandrels for a v3 tool. One of them, who does have everything right: Has a 100% satisfaction rating, is in the next state over, and is $10 cheaper than CM, themselves, and free shipping.

Not certain where to turn, here. Buy it direct from Coil Master's site? Is that the only way to know, for sure?

Back to the ceramic coated tweezers: Somebody's going to have to explain that one to me. I can understand the insulative properties of ceramic, but I really don't plan to be tweezing/squeezing live circuits. So...?

Anything vape related on eBay is most likely fake...
'Brushing' coils while firing them makes sure they all fire evenly. Best to do with ceramic tips so one doesn't accidentally touch the deck and cause a short...

I was under the impression that the easiest way to not short your coil against your deck was to:

NEVER SQUEEZE THE COIL WHILE FIRING.

What I've done when making unspaced coils is:

1) Fire the coil at a lower wattage that is just high enough to get it glowing.

2) COMPLETELY release the fire button AND either quickly turn the mod off or move your fingers away from the fire button (I tend to err on the side of caution and turn the mod off).

3) While the coil is still glowing (AND, again, mod not being fired or turned to OFF) pinch the coil gently with a regular old tweezers (preferably clean).

4) Turn the mod back on and fire, watching for an even glow that starts in the center and works out to the edges. If you have something that doesn't look like that when firing repeat steps 1-4.

And I've got nothing wrong with fake so long as I'm told it's fake. I wouldn't say that "everything vape related on eBay is fake". Actually most knockoff vape gear on eBay that I'VE SEEN has said, somewhere in the description, 1:1 or clone.

I agree that if you don't look in the full description and read it all then you might get a fake.

I brush them while firing. Start off low and work my way up...

I didn't say that you can't do it the way you're doing it.

If you want to buy special ceramic tipped tweezers and pinch your coils while firing go ahead.

The OP was basically asking why they were needed and I explained why they don't.

Actually, he asked what they are for, not why they are needed. They aren't needed...

Brushing the coil doesn't have to be done while firing. Doing so between pulses works quite well. If a coil has been made with a coil master etc., or just wrapped without visible gaps, keeping the power pretty much as low as possible and heating it gradually on the first burn is often all that's needed. I actually have ceramic tipped tweezers and almost never use them unless I've wrapped so poorly that a gap is visible and I'm too lazy to just start over and wrap it well.

Many online vape shops have stores on ebay and they are fine and quite authentic.. where your moronic preconceptions come from are just truly amazing

I feel sorry for those so limited in abilities they would believe a re-seller would sell authentic items below what it cost them to buy...

No telling what it would cost anybody to buy them bulk/wholesale. (If you look, you'll see, right on coil-master.net's home page, a "Wholesale" link.)

So I thought to ask Coil Master, themselves. Discovered they have a forum of their own. Looked. Saw many, many complaints about the purchase/shipping process directly from Coil Master, themselves! So I'm thinking to myself: If the eBay seller I'm thinking of using is selling a clone: Maybe I'd be just as well off?

Because dowels, screw drivers and rod blanks are so tough to find.
Holy shit a trip to lowes and you can whip up some serious custom coilers for super cheap.

No idea. I don't buy fake products or use coil masters. I just free wrap around the wick...

I'm not adverse to building things, but this would be one of those "My time is worth more than that" situations. Even at CM's price of $25 for the tool: It would not be worth my time to figure it out, purchase the materials, and fabricate the jigs.

No idea. I don't buy fake products or use coil masters. I just free wrap around the wick...
No way to tell, for sure, if they're fakes, or not. And I'm guessing, by the guessing and other responses: Nobody else here has any more clue than I.

*shrug* What the hell? I sent the most promising eBay seller a note, asking about the presence of a scratch-off auth. code in the box. We'll see what transpires.

Thanks for the input, everybody!

@vuJim I've certainly bought a few small, authentic items from Ebay.
I suspect some people just don't care for eBay. I've purchased a number of things from eBay sellers, over the years. I can't say as I've ever been done wrong.

But you can get the coil master V3 from Sweet Vapes for 12.95 here http://sweet-vapes.com/rba/accessories/coil-master-v3.html (which seems cheaper than the ones I've seen on Ebay).
Nicely spotted! I checked sweet-vapes, but didn't find it. It's actually slightly more expensive from sweet-vapes, with shipping, but I've already done business with them and, not that the eBay seller I was looking at isn't reputable, but I know sweet-vapes is. So I'm willing to pay the couple extra bucks.

I don't bother with ceramic tweezers either, simply because I just pulse and squeeze without power.
*nod*

Thanks, @AmandaD !

I don't use them to squeeze the coils; I brush and poke and prod them until they fire evenly, which kind of has to be done while firing. I use 32 ga wire...

A torch will take a few steps out removing the springy aspect of the 28 and thinner wires.

I got a full set of Kuro Coil jigs for around $10 from an eBay seller in my state.

Are they knockoffs? Yes.
Did the seller clearly disclose that they were fake in the description of the item? Yes.
Do they function exactly like the genuine item? I'm not sure, but the ones I have make pretty good coils.

My $.02 on fakes is that:

If it's just some Chinese company ripping off another Chinese company (as is the case with most e-cig knockoffs), the item performs half-decent, is a significant savings from the genuine item, and the fact that it is fake is disclosed up front I'll buy it (maybe even two!).
