First off, you have to commend Sony – who, lest we forget, produce Community – for letting Dan Harmon and company do this episode. No, they never directly said “Sony” or “The Interview”, but it was obvious what real life situation was being parodied here, and given how much it truly did impact Sony (and the polarized response to how they handled it and the movie's release), it was still notable to see a TV series from the company tackling the situation so soon after.
More importantly, “Basic Email Security”, written by Matt Roller, was a really funny episode, with a steady stream of memorable jokes. Having been absent since Season 3, Officer Cackowski (Craig Cackowski) made his return and brought with him some very amusing moments – most notably his big, “Avengers? Avengers? Avengers?” scene, and his new partner, who he had to make sure we realized was “literally a child in an adult-size police uniform.”
