When the first five issues of an eight-issue series get progressively worse, there's usually no reason to expect any improvement in the final chapters. Convergence would argue otherwise. While still not a great book by any means, Convergence has become much more tolerable these past two weeks as Scott Lobdell has returned to co-write the book alongside Jeff King. Many of Convergence's more glaring flaws have receded. The dialogue is generally stronger. The excessive narration is all but gone. And with the scope of the series opening up and including more than just the bare minimum of DC characters, Convergence finally feels more event-worthy.

That's not to say the series doesn't have its fair share of troubles still. Perhaps its biggest flaw this late in the game is that it lacks a credible villain. Deimos might as well have been chosen via throwing a dart at a board for all the significance and dramatic weight he carries. This issue brings Telos back into the fold, and their conflict quickly degenerates into a back and forth of "I'm the strongest!" and "No, I'm the strongest!". For all the spectacle Convergence has gained in the last couple issues, the conflict doesn't resonate emotionally to the extent it should. On the plus side, the Parallax-infected Hal Jordan throws his dastardly hat into the ring this week, and he adds a little spice to the conflict.
