Thanks to the return of co-writer Scott Lobdell, Convergence has found its second wind in the past couple weeks. Unfortunately, that added momentum isn't enough to carry the weekly comic to a satisfying conclusion. Convergence #8 offers an uplifting but largely anticlimactic resolution to this conflict of 40 cities.




Aside from basic storytelling flaws like lousy dialogue and overwrought, unnecessary narration (flaws that have largely been addressed in recent issues), one of the most glaring problems with Convergence has been its refusal to focus on a clear villain. The #0 issue centered around Brainiac and the creation of this remote world, but due to the events of The New 52: Futures End, Brainiac has been absent the rest of Convergence. Issue #1 shifted focus to Telos, but he was quickly supplanted by Deimos, a villain who seemed chosen entirely at random to be the big bad guy. And with issue #7 last week, Deimos was unceremoniously written out of the story as the Parallax-possessed Hal Jordan stepped into the limelight.
