When you boil Convergence down to its basic parts, it becomes just that: basic. It’s essentially just a series of battles in a planet-sized arena. Most heroes caught up in this event have been too distracted by saving their cities to even think about this, but that isn’t so for Tangent Superman and The Flash. Suffice it to say, Dan Abnett returns to tell one of the more thoughtful Convergence tie-ins.

Abnett jumps right in to the metaphysics behind Convergence, such as they are. The issue begins not with a variety of super speeded or telekinetically-powered punches, but with a philosophically-powered conversation. It’s a breath of fresh air, and certainly one of the more original takes on a Convergence tie-in. What is the point of Convergence? What is truly at stake? Does winning this Telos-forced battle really make you victorious? Abnett digs into these questions, and the results are highly entertaining. There’s a back and forth between Flash and Superman that is like a battle in many ways, but no punches are thrown. Well, initially that is. Abnett knows that this is a superhero book after all, and he makes sure to give readers a good fight in the middle of the intellectual debate.
