Nine years later, the Deadwood movie may finally become a reality.
It all began with a tweet from Deadwood actor Garret Dillahunt, who wrote, "So uh....I'm hearing credible rumors about a Deadwood movie."
HBO then issued a statement in response to Dillahunt's comment:
"In reference to Garret Dillahunt’s tweet regarding the rumored Deadwood movie, there have only been very preliminary conversations."
Even though HBO clearly were stressing how early these conversations are, the fact that they acknowledge they're happening at all is notable.
The acclaimed HBO series ended with its third season back in 2006. Following its cancellation, HBO and series creator David Milch were talking about wrapping up the story with two television movies. However, according to HBO's Michael Lombardo, the films never made it past the discussion stages.
