An early study has found there is some nicotine and formaldehyde released in the side stream vapors of electronic cigarettes. No one is certain what the effect of that might be on those exposed to it, nor are there yet any long-term studies about the effects on the primary user of the devices.
“There’s nothing healthy about an electronic cigarette. People are getting popcorn lungs from these,” Damm said. “I would predict this is going to be the next big health crisis.”
