So it varies with juices but I'm using a mutation xv4 quad coil on a tugboat mod with dual 18650 batteries. I don't think it has to do with any of that, or maybe it does but when I freshly drip juice it make a loud crackling noise. Does this mean its too hot or something? Just curious.

Such an advanced set up, Are you new to vaping?
some of that is normal, try lowering wattage and see if that cuts it down a bit, if it does, that answers your question:)

Generally speaking, there's nothing "wrong" with crackling. If you're running a hard hitting setup of any type, chances are you will have some crackling.

If you're using prebuilt, factory coils then some factors that contribute are:

Power level
Juice mix (PG/VG ratio and whether or not there is any Distilled Water in your mix)

There are several things that may cause it if you are running rebuildables:

Is your wick and coil fully saturated? Towards the end of a drip cycle my coils will crackle more--time to drip! Also true when first wicking a new coil...be sure it's saturated!
Power level
PG/VG/DW ratios
Fine "hairs" of your wicking material that contact the outside of the coil

These are a few of the most common reasons I personally have observed..I'm sure other vapers can add to this list. In my opinion, crackling is fine unless excessive--or unless it's creating loud POPS ...

Hot coils + Cold juice=crackling. If it continues when you vape, you need a tighter wick in the coils.

Tighter wick, was also a thought of mine. You might have some air pockets, when heated, the air expands, causing the crackling noise, due to the air escaping somewhere in the coil.
