Crap-my sig 30 took a battery down to 2.5V.

Hi people, quick question here.

My oldest device is my sigelei 30 mini, and I still use it.

Today, it would not turn on, so I changed the battery. I put the battery in my charger, and to my horror it was at 2.5 Volts!

My chargers have some form of recovery built in, so is this battery OK to use-or should I chuck it?

Also, I am slightly worried to use the Sig 30 now, incase it ruins other batteries.

So, how did a regulated device drain a battery to 2.5V? I'm not that worried as they were just efest 2900MAH, LG HG2 rewraps, but I don't want it to happen again. This is the first time a Li-Ion has gone below 3.1 volts, usually around 3.3V is where it cuts off.

So, any idea whats going on here, and can I safely use the sig if I keep an eye on the battery?

OK the battery jumped to 3.31 volts in less than a minute. Maybe it read the voltage wrong and nothing is wrong at all?

I usually mark my suspicious batteries, and keep an eye on them. However, when in doubt, and using the battery in one of my mech mods, I through them out. I'd rather be safe, than sorry.

I will mark it and use it in regulated mods-as the voltage jumped to 3.31 V in under a minute, I think it might of read it wrong somehow. But I won't use it in a mech-I never have anyway, I always use 25R's in my mechs.

I forgot to add, do you have different batteries for your mechs and your regulated devices? As I have been using my 25R's in mechs AND regulated devices-but I will use a mech maybe once a week for a couple of hours at most.

I'm using VCT5 in my regulated mods, and VCT4 in my 18650 mech mods. Only the 26650 mods are powered by Efest.

Maybe start pulling batteries at around 50%? I rarely drain mine past 3.8 even regulated, and single battery I can drain to that in an hour easy. I'm vaping my LE80 which has a live voltage reading. I looked at it for you while vaping. Under load, two batteries went from 7.7V, to 7.05V. So that's .65V of sag under load, which climed back up in under a minute. Just watched it. .65V is more than you described, but you're on one battery.

Just a thought. Batteries sag and climb back up significantly under load, which you seem to know. It is strange that the Sig let it get there, though. I'd keep an eye on it, and do you have a multimeter? $20 for a cheap digital GE, it's a good thing to have around. I meter all my batteries before and after charging, and before use if they're paired. My charger gives me all that info, but I still use my meter. It can't hurt to get one. You may already have one, though. Good luck, I'd watch that battery. If you're worried, bin it at an appropriate place. They're not that pricey.

It depends on my build, but I have 3 VTC5's I use in mechs for low builds, and in my iPV Mini 2. I have a ton of single HE2's that I use in both for less demanding builds, which are my typical builds. I have 3 paired sets of HE2's and 3 sets of HG2's, and they are used in all of my dual battery mods. So I use my batteries in rotation mech or regulated, as far as singles are concerned. Did I mention I obsessively meter, too? Lol.

I'm hoping it was a one off-and I had simply been chain vaping, the battery was empty and I did not notice, left it for a moment so voltage jumped back up-and allowed me to vape for a bit longer. I think this is the only way it could of happened. I will make sure to keep an eye on the meter a lot more now, I used to always watch it but now only do when I use the LG HG2's-they sag massively in all my devices-like from near full to 1/4 bar. Its the same with all 3 of them, one LG original and two Efest rewraps, so they actually last me LESS than a 25 R does. I have never tried them married though, but doubt I will due to the amount of sag I experience.

I hear you on battery life. I vape around 60 watts, and that kills a single in a mech or regulated so fast. I have five dual boxes now, I use my mechs and Mini 2 almost just to keep my 11 single 18650's in rotation. I have seen on my Mini 2 the battery sag all the way until a line crosses through the bar. It pops back up off load, but that's time for me to pull. It's also cut me off once, I think at around 3.5V? Not certain.

I still would be more attentive not just to that battery, but to the mod. Meter every batt out of it, it shouldn't go down that far. Again, good luck man. My meter lives by my charger and batteries. Vaping has some OCD habits for me that involve safety. 10 seconds to meter helps peace of mind, especially with mechs.

Also, regarding HG2's. I haven't used any single ones, just my 3 pairs. In a dual battery box, I get more life out of them, and have had no problems at all. My HE2's probably sag less, but for 20 amps or less, in a dual battery mod, I like the HG2's a lot. I've seen testing though, and they do sag more. Gotta sacrifice somewhere for that 3000MAH.
