Thinking about getting one of these for my crown Heard wicking is an issue. Anyone using it? Should I pull the triggger or not???

You heard right, I've only managed to wick it once to where it doesn't leak, tried numerous wicking techniques and none seem to stop if from leaking.

I've gotten mine to work "fairly" well a few times, but it isn't reliable. It WILL leak if it isn't wicked just right, and even if you do get the wick right, it will often leak if you try to top fill while using the RBA. If you try to pack in a lot of cotton to keep it from leaking you get dry hits. You may want to try rebuilding the normal heads.

The RBA can work. I've been using it for the last three days and it has only leaked a few drops. It simply isn't trustworthy. You never know if it'll dump a tank worth of juice all over your mod.

I resorted to stuffing the cap that goes around the wick with extra cotton to plug up any gaps. It's been hit or miss. Agree with the topfill. There doesn't appear to be anything preventing the downward pressure of juice from being pushed into the air flow hole underneath the wick resulting. Sucks because I do like this tank.

I don't like having to buy prebuilt coils if I can make it myself and the kit has been a letdown so far.

It's been a tricky and stubborn RBA to figure out. Finally got it to not leak and able to top fill without it leaking. Used 24g 5 wraps on a 2.5mm bit. And used the s wick technique and have had no leaks. Runs it's best between 30-40 watts I pulse it if I'm running it at 40 so it has time to wick and not dry hit. When I do fill it from the top I hit it at 45-50 watts the first couple pulls to dry it out a lil from the minor flooding but no leaks since I've built it this way. Just my experience so far after a few different builds I've tried.

I just use bottom fill when I run the RBA deck. I pancake wick it and bottom fill. Because of that, it doesn't leak.

I did the bottom fill for awhile it got old quick for me personally a lil messy and with the deep fill slots couldn't fill it enough and the way this thing goes through juice even with the RBA I had to figure out a way to be able to top fill. Had the s wick in here for about a week now and still no sign of leaking thankfully and its been a pretty decent vape.

Yeah I still get em here and there. RBA are those patience type setups not the chain vaping type like RTAs, stock coils and rebuilt stock. Gonna try rebuilding one of the stock coils sometime and see how that works as well. I always carry one around with me since this RBA has been unreliable with the past builds in it (excluding this one thus far)

Thank you for posting about it, I hadn't seen that video. The first time I wicked the RBA I used a similar amount of cotton but got dry hits. Perhaps it would work better in TC mode.

Hello ... new to the forum and thought I'd post my results. Quick background ... Started vaping 4 months ago with an Eleaf Istick 50w and Aspire Atlantis V2. A couple months later picked up the Aspire Triton w/RTA. Three weeks ago I grabbed the Uwell Crown w/RBA. To me the Crown tank seems to be leaps and bounds over the others. I even switched back to the Triton for a couple hours while I was waiting for the Crown coil to juice up. It wasn't bad but when I switched back to the Crown I could instantly notice a HUGE difference in flavor and thickness of vapor.

Several days ago I decided to give the RBA a try. I didn't have high expectations as I really didn't like the Triton RTA at all. I'd heard many of the issues with the Crown RBA and was waiting for disaster. I'm not experienced in coiling or wicking. My buddy gave me a Caterpillar RDA that I've used several times but he made another coil for me and I've only wicked it a couple times. To my surprise the first wicking on the Crown (using S-wick method) worked fairly well. I had to get through the initial funky taste and slight burning along with popping of the juice but when it settled in the vapor and flavor was great. To me it seemed fairly close to the stock coils.

I've re-wicked a couple times since then with varying results. However again I am fairly new to this. One time it was far too thick and all I got was burning. A couple other times not enough wick and leakage. When you do get it working it's really good though IMO. And I can fill from the top with no leaking when I am able to wick it properly. I'm hoping that with experience I can re-wick more consistently. I did come across somebody on a forum that said this method of wicking has worked well for them and thought I'd share.

I hope to get some SS 316L wire in the future and start making my own coils but for now I'll just use the ones that came with the RBA. Overall I'm very impressed with the tank and the RBA when I'm not having issues with it. Also as others have mentioned the RBA seems to work well at 28-32w. Any suggestions on the SS gauge etc. would be appreciated. I'm thinking of 28g with a 2.5mm coil diameter with 6-8 wraps. I like around .4-.6 resistance and know about the online calculator to figure it out. Just not exactly sure what gauge to get.

HAPPY VAPING!! Dave.

Hi Dave. Welcome to the forum.
Although it certainly does work, I don't recommend 28 gauge wire for the Crown RBA. From my experience, 26 gauge SS has been a better size wire in both watt mode and TC mode. Since my RBA was ready for a new coil (and you wanted a .4-.5 ohm coil in your RBA) I grabbed some 26 gauge 316L stainless steel wire and made a 2.5mm diameter spaced coil with 7 wraps. It came out to 0.43 ohm. Right in your sweet spot! I hope this helps.

Hey ... thanks for the reply. Good information to know especially for my first time wrapping a coil. Is there any reason that I couldn't use the same wire in my RDA for coils? Feel free to send me a message ... I don't want to hijack the thread.

Dave.

No problem. You can definitely use that wire in your RDAs. You can also rebuild the Crown prebuilt coils with 26g SS wire, but that can be tricky.

Well I tried that 'FUNNEL' wick in the video I posted a couple times with no luck. Just leakage all the time and wet gurgling hits. Apparently somebody said it worked well for them but I don't want to waste the juice to figure it out. I went back to the 'S-wick' and it's working like it should. If anybody else tries the 'FUNNEL' wick and has success please share what the trick to it is.

When I eventually start making my own coils I may try the vertical style to see how that compares to the horizontal coil. I've heard that it works a bit better.

Something else that I've just found that makes my experience with this RBA better. Quite often I use a fair bit of cotton with the 'S-wick" method to prevent leakage. However I've noticed that after vaping for a while and the cotton expands the juice doesn't wick fast enough and I start to get slightly dry/burnt hits unless I do a few primer pulls. This started to really annoy me so I took the RBA out and with a toothpick slightly pushed the cotton in through the juice holes. Not enough so that it floods but just enough so it wasn't pushed right up against the juice hole.

This seems to have helped the vape quite a bit. Nice thick clouds and great flavor. Wicking is keeping up and no dry/burnt hits. Maybe this is what the 'FUNNEL' idea was supposed to do but I couldn't get that to work on this RBA. Just thouight I'd pass this along in case any of you were having the same issues.

Dave.
