Curious about Ohm #'s on display screen.

Hi everyone , I'm a new guy to vaping and the forum so first of all Hello ,,,,.
Anyway for Xmas I bought two Alien 220W kits for my good lady and myself (cos we quit ciggy's) and I have noticed that with EVERYTHING being the same on both units,
same factory installed coils
same e-juice
same wattage
same batteries,,,, ect,,,ect,,
Her display reads 0.413 ohms and mine reads 0.637 ohms .
So what gives here ,?. why the difference ?,
Any help for this complete newbie would be greatly appreciated ,,,, I'm more curious than bothered with this but it is niggling my one baffled brain cell.
I guess if my pics upload you can click on em , mine is the red , herselfs is the greeny one.
Thanks for having me, and if you read all of this thanks for staying with me on my 1ST post...

All things the same there are some differences in various components

Mods
Even same make and same model you can get differences of readings, one circuit board has better conductivity and connection than the other, body materials, one has more natural resistance than the other due to metal material impurities, on an on

Atomizers/Tanks
Here you see the differences the most, impurities in the atomizer metal can cause more resistance to its components, the biggest being in the coil heads for the atomizers. Yes manufacturers state and print a given resistance of the head, but myself even as I use rebuildable atomizers most, I can make completely identical coils, set them side by side you can't tell the difference, though put them on a meter, again how evenly the metal impurities in the wire are distributed one coil will always be higher or lower than the other coil by 0.1 (say with NiChrome80) up to 0.3 (with using Kanthal A1) depending on the metal used, ie NiChrome on up to Kanthal (has a higher resistance naturally). 0.224 Ohm's difference though I'd check the connections of both devices, still 0.1 to 0.2ohms difference on the same device reading both atomizers will give you a ballpark of how far off one or the other mod is off in natural resistance. Coil heads, say a 0.4ohm printed rating that 0.4 can be between 0.31 up to 0.49ohm depending on the device you are reading them on.

Remember all those natural resistance variances compound and add up together on your final ohm reading, getting a dedicated Ohm Reader and reading from all 3 readers (both mods and the ohm reader or digital multimeter) you'll see how all those variances can affect things.

Welcome to VU Gavlan! And congrats on getting off of the stinkies.
As fire said, no two coils or mods are going to be 100% identical.

If you have the .4ohm coil installed, here are the manufacturer recommended wattage settings.
  • V8 Baby-Q2 Dual Coil
    • 0.4Ω
    • 40W - 80W (Optimal At 55W - 65W)

I noticed that you have both of the MODs set to SS (Stainless Steel) mode (Temperature Control). I "think" that these coils are not SS coils. According to the manufacturers website, these coils are probably KANTHAL wire (they say OTHER material type). You will probably want to kick the mode out of SS and back to wattage mode. While in SS mode, the MOD is attempting to read the correct ohm of the coil but is unable to because the TCR value of the wire is inaccurate.

Me not looking at details again --- sorry. Your ARE in wattage mode. I was looking @ the S in the upper right of the wattage setting.

Thanks for the welcome and the xlent info guy's.
PhantomOp ,, That "S" is for soft,,,,lol,,, baby stepping for this newbie,,,
IMFire3605 ,, great info I kinda guessed it would be something like you explained,,, we don't live a perfect world , do we?
so this discrepancy ( twix the two ) is nothing to be concerned about ,,,, grand, now I will sleep better .
Have a fab and groovy 2017,,,,

That's a big difference what does your tank on her mod read and hers on yours? 0.03 ether way is ok but not 0.2. Also clean the 510 with a Q tip. I run 40 to 45 watts on the Q2 coil 20 to is low to get a good hit.

EDIT: I should add that it could be a bad coil.

Ya, I technically have an Alien, however I've only gotten to use/play with it for about 15 minutes. The wife won't turn loose of it.

Swap atomizers with your wife. Check the reading on her mod before you swap and then on your mod after the swap. Do the same with your tank.
If your atomizers and builds are the same, check the screws to make sure none are loose. Identical atomizers with identical builds should be very close, allowing for imperfections in the wire or atomizer material. Usually less than 2/100th of an ohm though.

Well I did a bit of "mix "n" match with the wife's tank & coil and mine and after answering the "new coil" question and reinstalling my tank& coil and answering yes again , mine is now reading is 0.420 , hers is 0.414.
I don't know what was up but they are a lot closer now.
I guess switching tanks over and back again re-set / re-booted my mods brain,,, heck I don't know ,,lol.
Thanks ladies and gents ,,,, :thanks:

Glad it worked out must have just been a bad connection. Defiantly try 40 watts though.

Yeah, I just turned it up to 30 so that's 10 more watts in the bag, next it'll be 35 then ,, well you know ,
I do believe I'm becoming addicted to this gig much like I did with cigs , only I can breath easier now.
And it's a ball vaping, love it....

On those aliens I always make sure to hit the fire button with nothing on it before adding a new atty or build.

It lets the mod know there is no atty on it. Then when you put a new atty on it it asks if it's a new coil. Hit yes and it reads the ohms on the new coil.

Be sure to do that with the coil at room temperature and not right after chain vaping.

Yeah, that's about in the right range. less that 1/100ths of an ohm difference. :bliss:
