CUSTOM NOISY CRICKET NEW BUTTON / UPGRADE

Good afternoon VU!

Had a quick question to ask about the Noisy Cricket unregulated series mod. Since it's made it's premier, I've fallen in love with series box mods / builds that I bought 2, 1 for back up. I use them as my ADV all day, everyday. However, I'm on my last button. The plastic ones (black Wismec) keep chipping, cracking, then breaking on me from use. I know I can buy new stock black stock ones but they're not good plastic at all. I'm looking for a more durable, maybe softer or harder, better, custom/upgraded button that won't crack or break on me and can handle the screwing in and out well, and just plain better than the stock ones.

If anyone knows where to get a new custom button for the Noisy Cricket, please let me know.

I know Fat Daddy Vapes sells an upgrade kit that includes a new button but I can't speak to it's quality since I don't have one myself. However, I have heard favorable opinions on the upgrade kit overall ... might be worth a look.

@NGAHaze Appreciate your quick reply :). Have you heard people having cracking or chipping issues from the FatDaddy one? I've seen and heard about the upgrade kit for some months now. A friend of mine said his were a little wonky right out the box and also GrimmGreen said something about maybe inconsistency with those buttons too in a VLOG the other day. I'd rather go somewhere else or ask people here. I'm not trying to make my cricket necessarily "safer" with a 510 pin. I'm an experienced/hobbyist/experimental builder, sub-ohm and series. I just want a better material button; even a peak, delrin, ceramic, or squishy one that'll hold up to daily use and not crack. If the FatDaddy is the only custom button that's out, I may just have to get it, it's better than the stock ones. I was hoping there was a company making custom ones in different colors and/or materials already. Google search didn't help me any. Damn, I wish I had a 3d printer and would make'em myself. I'm surprised nobody's done that yet, selling custom noisy cricket buttons. I'd buy tons in all colors too.

Cricket is great, I've got two. I also picked up the upgrade kit, really liking it. Major advantage is I can run a lot more devices on it with it having a 510. Don't buy into the bullshit that it won't perform as well.

Anyway I also got a VCP, since I got it I rarely touch my Crickets anymore. The NC isn't of the best quality, the VCP though is solid and performance is great.

Anyway my two bits for what it's worth.

Here's what another person said yet again about the FatDaddy upgrade kit's button..

Hope someone here in VU has another resource for a noisy cricket button. Using a cracked one atm.

Nice. Heard about the VCP. Looks nice and clean. My type of style. Why I love the cricket so much. I'm going to have to look in to getting one. Thanks for your two bits @r055co - lol

No problem, I love it so much I just ordered the VCP Big Pig for my 30mm devices.

Vaping Bogan has a good YouTube review and breakdown of the VCP, check it out.

VC has also released an all black and a red/black VCP. A black/blue should be dropping shortly.

I have two Crickets. Both have the button upgrades from fat daddy and work well. Much easier to screw and unscrew. But you have to keep the threads clean. I use hybrid on one Cricket and 510 upgrade on the other. I've had zero issues with the fat daddy upgrade. Grim Green is not the best reviewer, IMHO. I have the hybrid with an atty that is meant for hybrids and I have the 510 on my other for any atty I want to use. What's nice is that with the hybrid you can stick a RTA on top safely (assuming you don't build below .45 ohms). It's pretty sweet.

Now there is no question the VCP Piglet is better. Also a really decent price for what it is. But I use the Piglet, the Cricket, the Hannya and the Lucifer as my mood dictates. I would use any series mech mod. I also use my HexOhms ...

Not making contact. Take it apart and clean it, even button can come apart. Clean your batteries if you have any black carbon deposit , scrub it until it's gone. Make sure that your switch is screwed toget tight. Remove any carbon from contact surface of the switch until it nice and gold without any black speckles. If it doesn't fire after that that your bottom contact is riding on battery wrap which means that your battery (s) is out of specs. Most probably positive side contact slightly pressed in (deformed) by you pressing that switch too hard. Cricket always works.
If you still can't figure it out you should send it to me for proper disposal:)

Never said he was the best reviewer. Any review by any person is simply an opinion & opinions are like assholes, everyone has one, right? GG's opinions matter more than other reviewers, that's just me tho. Maybe others differ, that's ok too. We're all different people who like different things, just as products. I love democracy. Thanks for your input @PaulS about your FatDaddy button. 2nd time I've heard about the VCP, love building series coils, I'm going to have to look more into it and possible get my hands on one. Still using my broke ass button right now but as long as this fires firmly, well, and safely, I'm OK with it...

... still looking for a different button tho.

I concur and can't agree more @anen. Clean threads, contacts, and batteries free from carbon deposit residue goes a long way on any mech mod; series, tube, parallel, etc. I also tell people to always check positive (nipple side) of battery for dents from constant use from button pressure, some press really hard and dent it, over time and use, it get's more dented and could possibly cause a hard short. I don't press hard, just firmly.

Does anybody know why I can't get Samsung 25rs to work in my cricket?

@Osbornebrandon53 I've only used these high amp LG's (?) on my crickets. I forgot which ones exactly, I think I bought them at a local B&M shop Craving Vapor here in Austin, same guys that make the Hex Ohm box mods. Big fan of the LGs. I had mine re-wrapped a few times as daily usage caused the normal wear around the negative ends. Going on almost 9 months and the 4 married pair I have are still fresh and hittin' hard like brand new batteries.

Appreciate the info about the Samsungs not fitting, never heard of that issue on the crickets. I do use Samsungs but on my regulated devices for battery life, they seem to hold a charge longer and last a bit longer than my others. I am a fan of the Samsungs, a few I've had over a year, almost 2, still take a full charge and are great. But the amp I think are a little lower than my LGs, the ones I have anyways, I know there's several versions and some may not even be real, just re-wrapped as well. In general, I always use my higher amp batteries for my mechs, as should all. Don't want to stress the batteries out too much, don't want anything to vent or pop. I like my teeth and lips.

Ive had my cricket for a little over 6 months (i think) and never had a problem with my button. Still looks new and works every time. I got through 2 sets of 25r a day. Ever since i got the cricket all my box mods and mech mods have been collecting dust.

I also have the Noisy Cricket upgrade kit and I think the button that came with it is worse than the original button. It sticks and I sometimes have trouble making contact with the battery. Like was mentioned in an earlier comment, it's probably inconsistencies in production, because I've heard other people say the button is great. Following this thread, because I'd really like to find a new button too.

Have not seen any aftermarket buttons for the NC other than the Fatdaddy. I snagged a couple of the 5 dollar Crickets (now I have 5 lol, likely a lifetime supply), and I can see thru the package that the button is slightly different, has knurling on the edge. Don't know if there are any other differences on the newer NC button. But I find it curious that people are breaking these buttons. I've had my original 2 Crickets for a long time, and the buttons are still fine. If you are using/needing tools to install and remove the button, then it's being over torqued. Put the button on first, just barely snugged down with fingers/fingernails, then put the hybrid cap on the atty and snug that up on the mod just slightly tighter than the button. Over torquing the button or atty can also damage the rocker connection panel, I have read of people cracking them or damaging the insulator in the middle. A modest dusting of powdered graphite on the threads slicks them up, doesn't take much, and I'm sure other types of aluminum lube would work as well.

A guy at the local vape shop has had button issues with his cricket. He got one when they first hit the market.

He pulled a button out of a mech on the shelf (clone) and wala. If you guys have access to mechs, try it.

The button out of my Centipede mech fits perfectly, my OG cricket button works fine, though a bit crunchy in its throw. My cricket is a 'clone' from fast tech, it is an authentic factory second almost assuredly... the button and hybrid have had their logo's ground off and the rocker was soldered upside down 'dangerous' doesn't begin to describe the condition it came in. fixed the rocker and insulated it for peace of mind. Love this thing!

Thanks for the buttons, I'll look them up later and see if I can buy a spare centipede mech button online somewhere. Noisy Crickets have always been cheap, I'm hella' surprised they cloned it, they'll clone anything..

I don't know jack about the centipede. However, I would probably look for a button that has magnets in the button, or one that will fit magnets. I have always preferred magnets in the button to springs. Might be a good idea to have them since this is a series mod, rather than a single 18650. Shit can get fucky in a hurry with a cricket. You can't get batteries out of them quick if something goes wrong.

I've been building for quite awhile, 5+ years, never popped a coil or vented a battery, ever. It's not hard to be vape safely. As long as you keep within the amp limits, you should be fine. As long as you do that, you don't need a mosfit or take your batteries out but it's good in case you like to push your limits or experiment I guess. I agree with you, magnets are what I prefer > springs, springs can melt, magnets are easier to clean, I enjoy the feedback magnets provide when pressing the fire button.

FYI.. I ordered the Fatdaddy Upgrade Kit a couple days ago and it just came in. Button is 10x better, beefy, solid, mine wasn't as bad as Grimm or that other guys, can't say they'll all be perfect, but just saying mine is. If it starts acting janky, I'll let everyone know. Good for now.

But I'm still interested if anyone's found or made a custom Noisy Cricket button, different shape or colors, I mean, they only sold 23452342342342342343 of them worldwide..
