Previously in Dark Souls, magic could only be cast a fixed number of times and the only way to replenish this reserve was to rest at a bonfire. Dark Souls 3 returns to a more traditional system, based around a magic meter. Known as Gauge, it functions as a combat modifier for the especially aggressive player.
