Love, Death + Robots Season 3 has revealed a first trailer, as well as a list of episodes and directors – revealing that David Fincher will direct his first ever animation as part of the line-up.

The upcoming Netflix show will see Fincher return to the director’s chair after producing the first two seasons of the show – this time, taking the helm of his very own episode.

Elsewhere, Love, Death + Robots features episodes from Tim Miller, and Academy Award winner Alberto Mielgo among others.

Bad Travelling is based on the short story by British sci-fi writer Neal Asher and sounds a tiny bit like a certain Alien franchise in which Fincher made his filmmaking debut. This time around, Bad Travelling trades in xenomorphs for sentient crustaceans, and the whole episode is set in the Jable Sharks universe which debuted in Neal Asher’s short story collection, The Engineer Reconditioned.

“A jable shark-hunting sailing vessel is attacked by a giant crustacean whose size and intelligence is matched only by its appetite,” reads the episode synopsis. “Mutiny, betrayal and ventriloquism with a corpse… welcome aboard the animation directing debut of David Fincher.”

Whether or not the episode will lean into horror tropes like the Alien series remains to be seen, but it nevertheless marks Fincher’s first foray into animated waters.

IGN’s own review loved the first season of the show, calling it “insane in the best way.”

“It's not immune to the issues that plague most anthologies, since some stories are more repetitive or derivative than others, but many of the worlds are so fascinating, they'll inevitably leave you wanting more, as all good short fiction does. This is one visual acid trip that's worth taking, even if your mileage may vary.”

Love, Death and Robots Season 3 heads to Netflix on May 20, 2022. You can see a full list of episdoe titles, directors, writers and synopses below.
