For many of you who have been patiently waiting for the LG Evo C2 42" 4K OLED TV, now you can rejoice. The majority of the 2022 Evo C2 lineup had been released earlier in the year, but for whatever reason LG had decided to hold off on its new 42" size until now. This highly anticipated TV is finally orderable on Amazon and ships immediately.

New 42" LG Evo C2 4K OLED Gaming TV

The 42" replaces LG's 48" as its smallest 4K OLED TV on the market. It performs just as well as its larger sized siblings as a gaming TV, but where it really shines is as a gaming monitor for your PC. The 42" size fits gaming desks better than the 48", which admittedly is still a bit too large, especially since most of us sit only a few feet away from our monitors. It has HDMI 2.1 ports and supports 4K @ 120Hz and VRR when paired with an RTX 30 series video card. It also boasts 4:4:4 chroma sampling for clear, sharp text as well as sub-1ms response times and native G-SYNC compatibility for zero tearing and ghosting. The new C2 model also introduces native GeForce Now and Stadia streaming support.

The new 2022 C2 model has an improved "Evo" OLED panel over the C1. Previously reserved only for the LG G-series OLED TVs, the Evo panel offers higher brightness levels, one of the few areas that traditional LED LCD TVs have OLEDs beat. As always, OLED panel blows away any IPS, VA, or TN monitor in terms of HDR, black levels and color rendition.

The 42" OLED model comes in at $1399.99. That isn't a cheap monitor when you compare the price to the 48" OLED. However, if you compare to monitors from other competing brands, it's actually very reasonably priced. The 48" Samsung Neo G9 Mini LED Gaming Monitor sells for over $1800 on Amazon. It has a 5120x1440 resolution, which is technically 11% less pixels than a true 4K TV. Mini LED is a different technology with its own set of advantages and disadvantages, but it is certainly not a superior technology to OLED, and definitely not worth the $500 price premium. Dell also has a 34" Alienware QD-OLED Gaming Monitor that sells for $1300, although there's a 2 month wait time on that one. It's only $100 cheaper, and unfortunately the screen size is smaller and only sports a 3440x1440 resolution, which equates to 40% less pixels.

Price Drops on LG C1 OLED TVs

If you're looking to buy a 48" OLED or larger, you'll save hundreds of dollars by going with the previous generation LG C1 model. You'll still be getting one of the best OLED TVs (and one of the best gaming and HDR TVs) on the market. Amongst OLED brands, LG is oft considered the flag bearer; LG OLED TVs boast several generations of optimizations under its belt and the C1 model has the gaming centric features we want like HDMI 2.1 (4K @ 120Hz), variable refresh rate, G-SYNC, and sub-1ms response time.

Alienware AW3423DW 34" QD-OLED Gaming Monitor

The first QD-OLED panel on the market

After much anticipation, Dell is now offering the Alienware AW3423DW 34" QD-OLED gaming monitor for $1299.99 on its website. Although by no means inexpensive, this is the first ever QD-OLED monitor we've seen and thus the price point is surprisingly reasonable for the new tech. Undoubtedly due to the hype, it has been going in and out of stock throughout the day, so don't hesitate if you've been waiting for this release. The estimated delivery date has already been extended all the way out to July.

QD-OLED technology was a big hit at this year's CES and Samsung earned the "Best of Innovation 2022" award for it. The QD OLED panel uses quantum dot technology to more efficiently produce higher peak brightness levels compared to traditional OLED TVs without losing the color accuracy and range and wide viewing angles that OLEDs are known for. Although Samsung is the one that publicized the new technology, it is Alienware that will be deputing it first to the consumer market with this AW3423DW monitor.
