DIY Heated Magnetic Stirrer Project: Pot question

The online resources for making these basically suck. Maybe I just lack the skills to complete the projects with the sparse instructions given, but either way, I'm hoping to post plans for one here that works for well enough for elquid mixing. In vape language.

Magnetic Stirrer with PWM motor control, around $15... check
Peltier device, operating range of room temp to boiling. Need some help here.

I could just buy a 1k, 5k, 10k, and 100k pot and try them out, but I fear frying the TEC in my ignorance and I want to keep the cost of R&D minimal

I have a digital infrared thermometer for reference.

I've got a magnetic stirrer project going myself using a 80mm computer fan and magnets.
You can put a 50 ohm pot inline with the fan to get basic speed control but torque will suffer with a pot.
I put this PWM speed controller on it and works like a champ.

You can also use a PWM to control the Pelter but will need to carry at least 6amps.


Something like this might work.

If you are going with a computer fan get a 120mm or bigger for more torque.
The 80mm doesn't like high VG at room temps.

Thanks for the replies - I got the magnetic stirrer sorted out, controlling the heating element is new territory.
@Azyre that's a sweet instructable, hopefully I can contribute a heated version if I ever get around to this project again... so many projects...

Once I decide whether or not to make it digital and have a spare $30, I'll post progress
