About to go DIY. Purchased flavours already and waiting to be delivered.

Have always vaped on 50/50 retail juice. Assumed I would make 50/50 DIY

About to purchase Nic as well as a gallon or so, I think it is of VG and PG.
Have been having a problem, I now understand is likely a growing aversion to VG I am told.

Read that people buy VG based nicotine. I am guessing that wont be a good idea for me.
Not sure why nicotine is VG or if it is ever PG but not sure what to purchase now.

Not sure I should be going DIY now after all. Maybe I will have to quit vaping? Or at least try to figure out what percentage PG over VG will work for me??
But regulations set in on January for parts of Canada so a rush is on to stock up on nicotine in case it becomes harder to buy next year, otherwise I would have held off a few weeks but only have a few days at most to make a decision.

Advice please??!!

Ok relax
you can get nic in vg or pg and some places do a pre mix for you

Now
heres the thing
unless you plan of 100% pg or 100% vg
and if your buying 100mg nic
the nic you add isnt going to change your overall percenatges much unless your doing 24mg nic

so lets say you are making 6mg juice

and you are making 100ml of it
if you use 100mg nic you are going to add 6ml of it to your juice so 6% of your juice is the nic base
SO if you have pure vg nic
that means you have 6% vg already just from you nic

SO if you are trying to make 100% pg juice
you definitely only want pg nic
if you are trying to max vg
you want pure vg nic

If you are doing any mix of pg and vg and you use 100mg nic
you can easily achieve it with either nic base

Now if you are doing 12mg 18 20, 24mg etc
then some pg/vg ratios are har dor impossible to obtain if you have the wrong nicotine base

Say you want to mix 24mg juice at 90pg/10vg ratio
even with 100mg nic base if its pure vg you can not do a 90pg/10/vg juice at 24mg because the nic will be 24% of your juice and add 24% vg to it if its pure vg.

My best suggestion is this
If you plan on 50/50 you wont have an issue
If you feel you will be doig rations that are 60pg or higher then get pg nic
if you feel you will be doing mixes with 60vg or more get vg nic

Now what nic to buy???

always go for 100mg nic
its more economical

vaporstek is one of everyones favorites here
along with
nude nicotine and nicselect

im sure theres a few others but they are favorite dmymany
others like wizard labs while others dislike it
ive used it and felt it was fine but noticed that Vaporstek had a cleaner taste
MyFreedomSMokes sells very cheap nic at times
although I have never tried it many here have said how bad it is in comparison to the other brands I mentioned

Some sites give you the option to order your nicotine in a 50/50 base. A lot of folks just use a PG base because it's thinner and easier to work with. Personally, since I also mix for other people with different ratio preferences, I get separate bottles of base, PG and VG, then mix a 50/50 for myself.

I buy all my nic in a pg base, because it's easier to work with! I've messed around a lot with my pg/vg percentages also, and my tolerance to VG has changed over the years (went from not being able to tolerate high VG to being able to do fine with it).

and im just thee opposite

before subohming i did 70pg
now i buy all nic in vg and cant handle more then 10-15pg in a mix

Remember you said you want to buy a gallon??? THATS A MEGA LOAD OF NIC at 100mg.

I make my juice at 6mg. So 1 liter of nic (less then a gallon) can hold me over for about 2 years or more Things can change in that much time as well.

Also pg has a huge self life while vg is about a year and half.

I think it was PG and VG he was buying by the gallon. But @Gazoo2You , you'll likely use more VG than PG, so invest accordingly. ;)

PG based nic is the best option for most. Better storage. Fewer issues with separation/blending. Easier to work with.

Interesting. Just need to step out for an hour but will read/comment and/or ask questions upon my return, but already this is better than I had heard from someone else, eslwhere

+1

Yeah, get two Gallons of VG, and one Gallon of PG. :D just kidding!

I started with nicotine in PG, meanwhile I have mainly nicotine in VG. Over a short period of time, I preferred high VG juice. Therefore, nicotine in VG was the better choice for me. Obviously, I'm also going through VG much faster. Rarely, I make a 20PG/80VG mix.

Ok. Not yet sure what the allergy is exactly. I was told it was VG but wasn't sure if that person had it backwards. Just spoke to the owner of a DIY company and he suggested it was likely a PG allergy. Had never heard of one for VG. So investigating further to be sure.

Have read all of the above and taken into account and will double check back if its PG instead of VG.

A lot of things are called 'allergies' that are sometimes just short-term sensitivities. Intolerance to high VG isn't uncommon, particularly amongst people who smoked for any length of time.

Yeah, understand that. Been vaping about 1+ years though and started to develop what I thought was likely the price of smoking. Imagined everything conceivable, haha
I was likely slowly dying lol
You know the drill.

Seriously though have undergone Pulmonary tests, no asthma and all so far is fine, tests for thyroid, fine, waiting on ENT to make sure no lump present.
Never once thought of vape related problems. Just read elsewhere today about someone with the same symptoms as I but she thought it was VG related so confused right now. Searching out scads of PG or VG symptoms to see which one might fit as I vape 50/50.
I am in a area that is not easy to get Nicotine for DIY.
Have a small window to buy.
Don't want to miss it.
But also reluctant to spend money if my symptoms could potentially get worse so was hoping to have it all figured out today.
Not so easy it seems.

Mean to say, started 6 months ago, went away and came back about 1 month ago and not going anywhere. Not life threatening but just annoying but need to be sure in case it could worsen. Doubt it would but I am not a doctor and i need to be sure----anyhow, got off topic only because it has so far either changed for me temporarily at least until i do know more

Most commonly, if people are allergic, it's to PG. However, some people are allergic to VG. IMO, the only way to find out, is by try and error, going with a 80PG/20VG, and vice versa, and see which is causing negative effects. Either way, I'd start stock piling the DIY stuff. You can mix your liquids going either way.
