DNA C & Unusual Replay Coils

Hi all,

I've read that the new DNA chipsets with Replay are supposed to be able to work as long as there is ANY temp control material involved ANYwhere. (Well, I'm assuming only if it completes a circuit. ;) )

I've decided to take them up on that and start testing some unusual combos to see if they work.

Right now, I'm first testing a fused clapton -- 3 32-gauge kanthal cores, and 34-gauge Ni-200 wrap.
Surprisingly, it does work once I set a puff for replay.. But after coming back from a longer sleep (maybe a half-hour or so?), it seems to forget where it left off and ends up getting way to hot -- as in, Ni-200 should NEVER be getting that hot! I can find another puff and restart this process, though.
I have yet to wind a new coil to see if something is wonky about the current one... Maybe tomorrow or so.

So I'm wondering if anyone else has tried unusual combos like that, and what their experiences were?

Better success if the cores are the Temp material the wrap is only along for the ride per wayneo on the evolv forums

Oh, I know.. I'm referring to testing for shits and giggles --- I mean.. science! :D It was said or hinted at by Brandon (IIRC?) that it would or should (I forget) work even if any part is TC material.

So it might be something interesting for some other bored DNA C explorers to check into.

As for myself, I find replay more reliable now after a recent wick change - so it's likely it could be more dependent on coil setup.. But there may be combos that work best.? Inquiring/bored/crazy minds may want to know.

true it was hinted at i think depending on the all thing in the circuit replay could be more effective.. from post style ,material, center pin there is like 14 or so data points used for replay but in essence i find in my day to day use with tanks and coils that SS Mesh works best for flavor at sub 80 watts and SS 316 works best for replay in my use case anyway.

BTW, you have another knight in your crusade about pg/vg! I hate that it's being warped into vg/pg. Worse still, now that there are both ways being strewn about, people neglect to mention which order they're referring to! :headbang:

And interesting in your report of SS316 working best in your scenario.. I'll have to try that as an outer wrap next. .... I KNEW there had to be a rational reason I got craploads of all kinds of wire when I got my Daedalus - I just KNEW it! =)

i know and it gets worse with freebase vs salt nic as well

In a strange twist, I decide to try this coil - the 3-kanthal-core w/ni-200 wrap - in TC, and to my amazement, it actually seems rock solid in TC.. Replay is still messed up with it, though. Go figure..:confused:
