So I thought I would bring this back and add to it. I got a SX Mini about 2-3 weeks ago, and I have been playing around with my VS DNA 200 for the last couple days. I think both are great. Too early right now for any problems. We'll see how they hold up. I got into all this for Temp control. If I wanted power... no real point to go this route.
SX 350j.... I have a D2 as well and the menus are pretty straight forward. Easy to move around. The SX Mini itself is very nice. Feels very good in the hand. But this is about the chip. As of now Yihi did release their firmware upgrade for SS coils... specifically user adjustable TCR. Being able to adjust the TCR solves all wire problems. No more reason to worry about specific materials.
So TC on the Yihi is a little irritating. The power regulation is pulse width. So it pulses power. Well, it can be very noticeable, and a little irritating. Getting used to power mode on the D2, 75 watts is plenty for me. And TC is a cool vape. Trying to get a power type vape out of TC is useless. So to be fair, you can lower your joules, and mitigate much of the pulsing power. The only reason it pulses so bad is the joule setting is way over what is needed for the temp. So knock that down a bit and it smooths out.
Bottom line, it's a nice chip. for those that want a single or dual 18650 box, it's a great choice. It is also a great choice for those that don't want a complicated setup. Plenty of adjustability, without an overly complicated software interface.
DNA 200.... ummm... there is a bit of a learning curve with Escribe. I have the same complaints as others.... menus are not exactly intuitive, and you HAVE to use the software to set TCR or anything besides Ni200 or Ti. So SS has to use Escribe. With that said, Escribe is easy enough to do. You learn it. Not too crazy. And the flip side of that is... a metric crap ton of adjustability and customization.
The power delivery is much smoother... well... it's smooth. Let's just say that. No pulse. Just power. You can get it dialed in really well. Big hit to heat things up and smooth vape after that. Since I only use SS, I basically just set multiple TCRs in the 8 profiles. Still playing around a bit, but I have narrowed it down to a couple TCRs, and then a couple power setting for each. Soft and hard, less or more.
For those that build their own exotic coils, and run multiple devices, the DNA is for you. You can set it up in any imaginable way. The Lipo batteries them selves offer plenty of options. Of course bigger boxes hold bigger batteries. I have seen some 2200 mah builds. That's more than two very good 18650s. And with the higher voltage and step down regulation they are more efficient. My 900 mah 3s in the Vapor Shark is lasting me more than my single LG 3000 mah 18650 in the SX mini.
So.... you really can't go wrong with either. Both offer something for every one. I could see some folks going one way or the other depending on what they want. Me... I'm going DNA 200. The power regulation/delivery is very nice. Very easy to dial in just right. And the initial power hit to get the coils going is more adjustable than the preset modes in the 350j. I still like my SX Mini for what it is. But I love my VS DNA 200. I got a crazy price on a Hcigar VT200. It should be here Monday or Tuesday. I will set it the same as my VS and carry on. 2 DNAs with 900 mah batteries will easily get me through a long day.
