Warning: this article contains spoilers for the ending of Marvel's The Death of Doctor Strange!

Marvel's The Death of Doctor Strange miniseries will wrap up in January 2022, but the publisher is already revealing the fallout of this storyline and its impact on the Marvel Universe. There's going to be a new Sorcerer Supreme, and their name is... Doctor Strange?

The Death of Doctor Strange has already lived up to its name, with the titular hero meeting his end in issue #1. The series has focused on the mystery behind that murder and how Strange's death affects other supernatural power players like Baron Mordo and Strange's ex-wife Clea. Now we know Clea herself will take up her ex-husband's role in a new ongoing series starting in March 2022.

The new series will simply be called Strange. The Death of Doctor Strange writer Jed MacKay will continue his ongoing story, exploring how Clea Strange adjusts to her new role and her attempts to bring her ex-husband back to life. The series will be drawn by Marcelo Ferreira (The Death of Doctor Strange: Spider-Man).

"After the apocalyptic events of The Death of Doctor Strange, there's a new Sorcerer Supreme in residence at 177A Bleecker Street, and a new Doctor Strange - Clea Strange," teased MacKay in Marvel's press release. "And she's got her work cut out for her- when she's not fighting off the magical gangsters of the Blasphemy Syndicate, or battling undead super-monsters, she's going after what's hers: the late Stephen Strange. Clea is of the Faltine, that race of Warlords and conquerors, and like her relatives Dormammu and Umar, she will not be thwarted in her desires, not even by the mysterious Harvestman standing in her way."

Interestingly, this shake-up happens just two months before the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Is this shake-up a clue that Clea may soon be making her MCU debut?

Doctor Strange isn't the only Marvel mantle being passed to a new hero in 2022. A mysterious new Asian hero will replace Danny Rand as Iron Fist in February, while the newly relaunched Venom passes the symbiote from Eddie Brock to his son Dylan.
