If you haven't been following events like Pearl Abyss Connect or the world of upcoming MMOs, you might have missed DokeV -- a creature-catching MMO from the makers of Black Desert Online that just got an explosively colorful new trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2021.
DokeV is an action-adventure game where you befriend strange creatures called Dokebi that gain power from the dreams of people. With them, you explore the world, catch more even creatures, and get into fights. A lengthy trailer today showed off lots of activities, including battling, skateboarding around town, floating using an umbrella, a grappling hook, a jet ski, a tiny car, and plenty of unusual creature friends like a cute pink anteater on two legs, a bear with boxing gloves, and an adorable rideable alpaca thing.
DokeV isn't a new reveal -- it was first announced in 2019 at Pearl Abyss Connect and is being built on Pearl Abyss' next-gen proprietary game engine. It's planned for release on PC and console, but unfortunately we still don't know when yet, as we didn't get a release window at Gamescom today.
But from what we saw today, DokeV looks incredible, especially given that most of the footage we saw seemed to be actual gameplay. Black Desert Online was lauded at launch (including by us!) for its incredible attention to detail, and DokeV looks like it might follow in those footsteps with next-gen tech. Hopefully it avoids Black Desert's more grindy shortcomings.
