How many drops per ml, on average for the FA flavors?

33 from the regular/average size drop top. The ones with the skinny, needle top are like 60? Maybe a tad more? Someone posted that recently, I can't recall who. Maybe @wllmc?

Wow! Lol, I have been calculating at 20 drops/ml, Lol! It seems to be working well with my flavoring, but I will bump it up to 33 and see what happens :) Thanks for the input @Huckleberried :)

I was doing that, too, for a long time, actually. Well, long time, to me, lol. I had never noticed the 20 drops pre-set in the calculator I was using, lol. As long as it's good to you, then it's good.

Drops are not a good way to measure you liquids, unless all the liquids you are using are in the same type of bottles.
I have bottles of PG, VG, nicotine and flavors in the same 20ml bottles, I use drops to make a tank full of something new to try. But when I'm making a bottle I use Syringes.

I've made plenty of mixes with drops. If it tastes good, it's fine by me. Measuring by weight is done in drops and they're fairly consistent with what I've done without a scale, too.

If I were a vendor, then no, I probably wouldn't go by drops, but the only people I'm mixing for are my boyfriend and myself.

33 is a good number for most like huck says. The new needle tips are different. Cant remember now. Since measuring by weight i realized both drops and syringes are close enough. You never really get "3" ml in a syringe once you put it on a scale.

The needle tips are about 60 drops/ml. I make up small sample flavors using drops, simply because it's fast. If I like something then I get out the scale and make up a bigger bottle, but using drops gives me an idea of whether I want to make a bigger bottle or mess around with the percentages.

About 2 months ago I did an extensive drops per ml test. I used 4 different different brand flavorings and blunt, extended, and needle tip bottles! The test was done at 70 degrees F My results varied from 32 to49 drops per ml.
I just settled on 40 drops per ml for use in calculator. I realize I could be experiencing up to a 20% error! But since I only use drop method for initial small batch test; (10 or 5ml) That error is small enough that I can still decide whether I want to go ahead and make a 30 to 100ml batch in which I accurately measure!

I mix everything by weight now. More accurate and very little to clean up, usually just a beaker, a funnel and a pipette. One drop usually weighs 0.02-0.04 grams, depending on what it is and the size of the bottle top. Much easier and faster to mix for me.

I love mixing by weight. I was surprised at how wildly different each drop can be. It really doesn't matter if you're making a little bottle but if you making a large one those little inconsistencies suddenly become mammoth.

I use syringes for bigger bottles, but I like the drops in smaller bottles just because its faster. I was just curious, because some juices, made by other folks, are a little stronger. I follow their recipe and mine is week. I was following the 20 drops/ml default on the ejuice calculator. I will increase it to 33 and go from there. It is kind of a pain to have to take the tips off of the bottle to use the syringes, especially if I'm mixing 7 or more flavors, I need to use more syringes, or just keep washing out the same one to avoid cross contamination of flavors. Drops are definitely more convenient in that instance.

Mixing by weight would take away a lot of that hassle for you. If you ever try it, you won't go back to eyeballing fluid levels in syringes. I haven't touched a syringe in a while and I've been mixing a lot lately. :)

Gonna have to look more into this weight mixing - is it difficult to convert recipes over from percentages, or is it pretty much the same? Say a recipe calls for two flavors at 2.5% - could you just weigh out, say, 9.5 grams of base and 0.25 grams of each ingredient?

It's incredibly easy! Flavors average out at about a gram/ml!

Awesome - so all the recipes out there that use percentages are directly convertible - X% by volume is the same as X% by weight?

Only for flavorings. It's slightly different for nic, pg, vg.

Your recipes do not need to be converted, you use the same recipe and the resulting juice is exactly the same. The calculators calculate the recipe in volume (ml's) and then tell you how much the volume weighs. Let's say that you are adding 10.5ml of PG. the calculator will tell you to add 10.878 grams of PG (10.5 x 1.036). The weight of PG is 1.036 grams.

Harborfreight is a good place for a cheap scale. Get one that measues to a tenth of gram. 10-20 bucks, they have 2 small ones and one of them has better reviews. I believe their capacity is up to 500g.

Pg is 1.03g/mL, vg is 1.25g/mL, nic in vg 1.22g/mL, flavors vary 1.01 to 1.05(just call it 1)

If you order from heartland, they have yorker spouts for their bottles for like 33 cents a piece. Their 4oz spout works on bottles from flavor west(even on a 16 oz bottle).

In case I upgrade, what scale is everyone else using?

Nm the Harbor freight scale, I can see there are ones that go to the hundredth decimal and are very affordable, look at the mixing by weight in tips and tricks section.

Just pull out the plunger, cover the needle tip with your pinky finger, and drip the flavoring into the top of the syringe.

No need to wash in between flavors, and then I add NIC in the same syringe to help flush out the leftovers.

For my 5-10ml test batches, drops are way easier...

You definitely want scales that are precise to hundredth's of a gram. Tenths is not precise enough for measuring small quantities of liquids. There are many different scales available. You also do not want scales that auto-shutoff quickly as that can make taking your time mixing difficult. I use AWS LB-501 scales, available from Amazon. They come with calibration weights, are precise to 0.01 grams and come with an AC adapter. If using the AC adapter, they do not auto-shutoff for 10 minutes or so, which gives you plenty of time to mix without hurrying.

I use a $15 scale (Horizon) I bought on Amazon. It's accurate to .01 and works beautifully. Auto shutoff really isn't an issue, because I tare in between adding each ingredient.

Ah, I remember my days of Egos and Evods...1.5-2ml was a heavy day of vaping, I thought those people burning 10+ ml of juice were completely nuts. No idea why I even switched, as those setups were fine to get me off cigs and keep me off for over a year. I actually just set up a new Nautilus/iStick 20 knockoff for my mother-in-law and tested it out - thing works great, and a tank would probably last me a couple days!
