Dry hits in Evic VT! Bad build?

Getting dry hits over 470 degrees on my Evic VT. I think it's a bad build... Does this dark spot on the coil indicate a hot spot? I want it a little warmer... Maybe it's the wicking? Any comments appreciated. Be kind, it's my first nickel build!

I don't see a sign of burnt/singed cotton in that picture. So, I don't see any indication a dry hit has occur'd. Pull the wick ... that singing could be localized in the center of the coil. At 470 F, you can burn dry cotton ... Temp Limiting or no Temp Limiting. Singe temp of Dry Cotton is just over 400 F.

If you are getting flavorless hits, blame your wicking ... it looks decently saturated. Did you wet the whole wick? Is the part inside the coil juiced?

Finally, but probably most importantly in your situation ... you prolly want to scrap that coil and replace it with a spaced build. Ni200 is not contact coil friendly. If you pull the wick ... you may find the source of that dry hit.

Agree with the above post - you need to space the coll! It's almost impossible not to get hot spots in a contact coil, and since you can't dry burn you can't fix the problem.

Flavor is good and the wick is fully saturated. Believe it or not, the coils are slightly spaced, but probably need for room. Looks like I need something with more room to build than my Derringer. Thanks folks!

I personally love working with Nicole in a derringer flavor and clouds I'm using a SX MINI M class not sure if that makes any difference

Maybe I'll have to get smaller gauge then. I'm using 26 because that's all my local shop had. I'll order some tempered 28g from Lightning Vapes soon!

Yep, that dark spot is a hot spot. Take out the cotton and gently pull the coil apart and use a sharp tip tweezers to space the coils out a bit. That might help. The other option I use is to make a twisted 30 gauge wire and then make a spaced coil. That setup works really well in a dual coil setup.

Thanks for the input! I'll fiddle with it and let you all know if I fix it. I have a feeling I should have gotten some tempered 28g or go ahead and twist some 30g as per Zamazam's suggestion.

You can build as low as .06 so you don't need that many wraps. With your 26g build 7 wraps 3mm diameter. 26g is the optimal guage for single coils so you made the right choice.

Good deal! I'll give that a shot later when my little monsters take a nap and report back.

Worked out the hot spot on my original build. Just brush the coils with my tweezers. Crazy that it can be that finicky. Currently rocking 500 degrees at 38 watts. Simply delightful!

That's why I bought 2. In a years time, temp control will be more mature and accurate, and also more expensive if the government has it's way on taxing and regulating vaping devices.

So I just rebuilt... 7 wraps on a 1/8 drill bit. Got it up to 550 degrees and 40 watts.

Out-fucking-standing. I'm now finally getting the same vape I got off of kanthal, just controlled now. Thanks a ton for the help!
