I've been using RDAs for a couple of month now and I have been building with 24g Kanthal. I want to keep it simple but so far most of the builds I see need a drillbit and all that nonsense. What are some of the easiest handmade coil builds out there that use 24g?

Some people use a drill bit for nothing more than a mandrel to wrap a coil on. Some of us use a Kuro coil (or clones) to wrap a coil.

You can use whatever you want to wrap with.

There ARE basics that ANY coil builder should have though. And an OHM meter isn't optional, its required.

Spaced 24g Twisted Kanthal, 2.5mm ID, 4x4 Sleeper Build at 0.1ohm at 100W. Amazing flavor and vapor production, super easy to build and wick, and you don't need any special tools to make it, just a screwdriver, pliers, and something with some weight (coffee mug/padlock/etc). Don't mind my very crude drawing skills, but it's really easy to do, and twisted wire is great for flavor production

My buddy was telling me about that, I'll give it a lil' looksie later. I'm on a corporate computer so I'm stuck with all the stock programs, can't install anything good, barely running Windows7 lol. If I was at home, I would use AutoCAD and PS to make a whole BluePrint diagram for this................well probably not cuz I'm pretty lazy, but I COULD! hahaha I need to get myself a damn drill, so I can step up my game to your level, some of your builds make me pretty jelly :p

I havent built anything much this month due to being sick almost 2 weeks now and Christmas vacation for the kids...Tax time is right around the corner and Im looking forward to buying some new stuff. I actually just picked up the Snow Wolf Mini in Crimson and the Griffin RTA...Now ill have a mini of my initial setup SW200 Crimson and Griffin RTA and a SW Mini Crimson with a Crius V3  I need more wire though, mostly 28-40g Ive got about 500ft-1000ft of everything else (20g-26g and 40g-52g).

If you do buy a drill soon buy something higher then 18V unless it has step up for speed, I have a 18V and making 3 ft of 22g/40g+ Fused Claptons takes almost 10 minutes of thumb/finger numbing pains holding the drill.

Tax Refund? Don't you mean Vape Budget? lol, I'm in the same boat, NEED MORE WIRE!!!!!!!! Where do you get yours from? I could use a few 500ft-1000ft spools of 20/24/36/42 and some ribbon too, those are the ones I seem to use the most. The vape shop I go to that has a fully supplied build station has a 12V drill, and it works great (especially since it's free) but I hear what you're saying, it takes FOREVER!

I like your idea of having the mini version of a setup, I would love to have the X-Cube Mini with the Micro TFV4, it would look so cute next to it's bigger brother :p Have you run into any leaking issues with your Crius? I've been thinking about getting one myself, but don't know anyone with it so I haven't had any hands on experience yet. Why can't I just win the lottery already so I can just get ALL THE VAPE STUFFS EVER! FOREVER! :D

The Crius doesnt leak but condensation does gather around the AFC ring like others mention, I stopped using it due to the limitations of the RTA even the I modded mine, same with the Aromamizer. I was looking at the Micro TFV4 but it doesnt have the Room of the TF-R2 RBA which is my favorite ADV...
I buy wire on ebay, its not always in stock but the seller sells 1000ft rolls of Kanthal D for $8-$12 depending on the gauge of wire. Click this link and go through his inventory. Kanthal D has the exact same properties as A1 except it has a lower max heat rating. The other wire like N80 and N60 I buy from Kaybee and others, Link here.
I havent seen a reason to buy from LV or KP and pay more for the same wire...
To be truthful if you won the lottery and could afford it all I feel it would get boring fast...I like slowly accumulating all the stuff and having time between each thing to make it perfect or give it away to those who feel they would like to use it.

Is the lowest Max. Heat even close to anywhere near what we as vapers get too? As in, I've seen your builds Pulsed and glowing red (hotter than the wire will ever get once wicked), so I would have to assume that the wire isn't getting anywhere close to hot enough to melt itself or anything, so it works exactly the same as A1, but for less than half the cost? Why would anyone use A1 then if D is just as good for our purposes? This may save me a bunch of money in the future then.

Yeah, I know it would. I wouldn't really want it to work that way, truth be told, but I always have that mindset when like 10 different things I want all come out within a week of each other, I'm just like "I WANT IT ALL, AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!!" hahaha, but yeah, it would get pretty boring pretty quick if you had it all at once, but it's fun to dream sometimes

Only if you vape in the 1700°C and up then your reaching its limits lol. You wont ever max that wire out and if you do that wire is the last thing that will be your issue. People use Kanthal A1 because it was the choice wire as vaping was starting up and people were worried about temps and mettalic properties but a study on UK vapers forum showed the only difference in A1 and D was Temp Max Limit and its only lower by 10%, which is still higher then you will ever get with vaping. It is much cheaper but harder to find in the lengths/gauges we need and this also contributed to why A1 was more popular. Ive turned most people on the Post Your Builds" Thread onto the Kanthal D and most of us benefit greatly from spending much less and being able to build twice as much as before.
Ive gotten builds white hot, not orange/yellow, like a cameras flash it there isnt any residue, nor film or smell, it reacts just like A1 does, I use it without worry. 95% of my builds are Kanthal D and Ni80 or Ni60

Resistance/ Temp Rating of Kanthal we can use for vaping....

Kanthal Max. continuous operating temp. Resistivity at 20ºC (68ºF)
Kanthal A-1 (wire) 1400 (2550) 1.45 (872)
Kanthal A (wire) 1350 (2460) 1.39 (836)
Kanthal D (wire) 1300 (2370) 1.35 (812)

Kanthal A1:
Specifications
  • 22% chromium (Cr), 5.8% aluminum (Al), Iron (Fe) balance
  • Density: 7.1 g/cubic cm
  • Tensile strength: 680 n/mm²
  • Melting Temperature: 1500°C (2732°F)
  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 1400°C (2550°F)
  • Density: 0.256 lbs/cubic in.
  • Specific heat capacity @ 68°F: 0.11 Btu/lb°F
Kanthal D:
Specifications
  • 22% chromium (Cr), 4.8% aluminum (Al), Iron (Fe) balance
  • Melting Temperature: 1500°C (2732°F)
  • Maximum Operating Temperature: 1300°C (2370°F)
  • Density: 0.262 lbs/cubic in.
  • Specific heat capacity @ 68°F: 0.11 Btu/lb°F
Kanthal A1 vs. Kanthal D
Kanthal A1 wire has a slightly higher melting temperature and tensile strength and is more commonly found in large industrial applications. Kanthal D is usually used for small home and small-scale applications.
Kanthal D would actually be more suitable for vaping due to the reduced Aluminum Content in it :p

A dual 5 wrap at 2.5-3mm works very well. It all depends on what your mod can do though. I never run that setup below 60w. Instead of using a drill bit pick up something like the Kuro Koiler. It wraps darn near perfect coils every single time. You could also pick up a cheap set of "precision" screwdrivers for $5 or less at Harbor freight. There is a set of black and green ones that even have the sizes listed on them. The 3mm screwdriver is much more comfortable to hold onto and wrap than a bit. They also work much better than the junk mini screwdrivers that come with most RDA's and tanks. Pick a crappy weather day and wrap a 1/2 dozen sets. I have a little storage container to hold different types of coils. I usually make a few different kinds to experiment with and label the bin.

Kanthal D. i'll keep my eye out for it. more money for juice, lol.

as a new builder, i imagine that i'm going to burn through quite a bit of wire learning this new hobby.

Yeah you will in the beginning. But for tools.. Just a 2-2.5mm drill but or screwdriver. Give parallels a shot, they can be quite nice.

Understatement on the wire use. Temco, and lightning vapes will see a ton of your money.
The Parallels can be a but trick and trying due to the gauge thickness but they do work amazing, a great base of the more artistic coils out there. And the placement of coil/coils for max airflow.
2-2.5 is a but trying on the fingers if you short your wire so get some length on it.
3-4 mm is a bit more forgiving but short length is going to be a pain.

Kanthal D and VerdeValleyVapes.com for juice and then you wont have anymore money issues but a shit ton of wire and juice...
A bit more then 1400ml in my room and another 2000ml in my office, its good and extremely affordable juice.

it seems that the D is getting as rare as the A1.

Temco for sure.... in the end. i thought getting stuff from China was slow, but 13-14 weeks delivery! holy shit! but for the fine stuff, it is the only way to go.

i have been looking at this company. https://www.koiler.com/ Canadian based, with the shitty Loonie figured in. are there any Canucks that have bought from this company?

What size wire should I buy to start coil building w/ temp control device, capable of Ti, Ni, SS, Kanthal materials ????
I was thinking: 22, 24, 26, 28, 30
What ribbon dimension do I use to wrap around ?

I'll be building for typical atty's, starting w/ Kennedy 22 Clone.
Looking at Royal Hunter and another Authentic Kennedy to acquire, as well, and build on.
Suggestions/advice appreciated, I think I live driving distance from this Temco place.
(That link on eBay said ships from Fremont, CA)
