I was ready to sell this brand new tank due to the noisy AFC. Restricting it just made the pitch higher! ANNOYING!! Today I tried something that worked perfectly to eliminate the noise and make the draw feel more like a 22mm tank with the narrower chimney and more concentrated vapor, which I happen to prefer but that part was a happy accident!
All it took was a broccoli rubberband wrapped around the AFC ring.
It's loose enough to turn it around the AFC ring with your fingers, but just snug enough to stay in place and not fall down off the ring. I experimented before actually cutting the band and using rubber cement to stick it together. Then after sticking it I found I had wrapped it a little too snug and wasn't getting enough air, so peeled it back, loosened and re-stuck it (the advantages of using rubber cement) and it's PERFECT now! (Again, to be clear I am sticking the band to itself, not to the AFC ring.) And b/c I have a band on there that blocks some airflow, I opened the AFC ring underneath it wide-open.
It works so well I wish they would include black bands as air baffle bands for those who can't stand the noise of these tanks! Which would save people from having to find the perfect tightness to make it. But now I can also have the top AFC open halfway with no additional noise!
