Eleaf Aster Vs Pico

Is there a difference. The specs seem almost identical. I know the Pico has a screw in battery placement while the Aster is magnetic. Which is the preferred solution? Which is more durable? I want a TC capable mod with a single 18650 battery, that takes a 22mm 510 thread tank (Subtank Mini). I will use mostly in power output wattage mode. Any otherbetter solutions in a price under $30 US or under $40 CDN?

My Pico fits in the palm of my hand 2 1/2 inches tall without tank 4 1/2 inches tall with the Melo Tank
My Aster is tall and thin 3 1/2 inches tall without the tank and 5 1/2 inches tall with the Melo Tank
The Pico can only accept a 22mm max diameter tank because of the battery cap location- where the Aster can accept any size(may look top heavy though)
I love my Pico much more than the Aster because of the smaller size! The Aster is too tall slender and tippy, doesn't fit in my pocket!
I won the Aster in a contest - I already own the Pico and for me I like the Pico more!

Thanks Snapdragon. Is it worth it to pay the extra for the kit? I already have toptank mini but if the kit is worth the extra few dollars.....

Yes Chuck, nice to have an extra tank and the Melo is very nice and fits perfectly! You can also use Aspire Atlantis coils in the Melo- very nice coils that work in many different tanks! I just purchased the Aspire EVO Extended Tank KIt for the Pico also- comes with 4ml and 2ml glass and will use Atlantis coils too! I have not used the EVO tank yet, just got it! I try to buy tanks that will use the same coils, makes things easier for me!
http://vapingunderground.com/threads/aspire-atlantis-coil-fits.110143/

I have never used the top tank mini, but if you like it then just by the Pico without the tank!
I have the Pico 75w- now they have the mega the choice is yours.

I just don't like the design of the Aster, it is very skinny and tall and tippy and doesn't fit in my pocket! The Pico is a much better device and I really like the Melo tank- but the EVO Extended Tank kit makes that tank versatile in sizes and you at least have a spare glass if it gets broken the choice is yours!

Can't speak for the Astor but I love my Pico and the Melo 3 tank isn't bad ether.
I have both and don't know why they designed this Aster when they already had the PICO? Maybe so people could put on a 23mm or larger tank? The design of the Aster is so weird and tapers down at the bottom, that it makes the Aster top heavy and tippy! I've knocked it over a few times!
I won the Aster in a contest- other wise I don't think I would buy it- not a fan!
This is about the same price as the Pico and I would rather have the Pico- yes I like the Melo tank too! Sure burns through juice though, I have my Pico and Aster set at 25w and it seems like I have to constantly fill- that is why I just bought the Aspire EVO Extended Tank- I can use the 4ml glass and not have to constantly fill!

The Merlin fits on the Pico just barely and I believe that is 23mm. Thats my wifes preferred setup.

Edit: My bad, looks like the Merlin is actually 22.8mm so quite possible that a true 23mm tank may not fit the Pico.

Do you have the subtank mini? Which tank do you have now?
That Tank will fit the Pico and it is 4.5mls- I love my Kanger Nebox- uses those OCC coils as well as the SSOCC coils!
My most favorite device is the Kanger Nebox- 10 ml tank, I carry spare batteries with me in a plastic box and just love to vape this thing! Mine does NOT leak! The Nebox goes everywhere with me! I love mine so much that I just bought 2 more- another white and 1 black!

Great price and fast shipper!

I actually have the Toptank Mini on my Subvod Mega. It's 4ml (22mm) and it's not leaked in the three weeks I've had it. I also have the Toptank Nano (3.2ml & 18.5mm) on my regular Subvod. The smaller Subvod was my first and only machine for 5 months and it's never leaked in the 6 months I've had it. It leaked out of the air holes once when I forgot to tighten the top cover, aside from that never. I love both those tanks. They both perform great. The little Nano tank produces surprisingly awesome clouds. The Mini does too but that's no surprise. I also have a Joyetech eGo AIO Pro C. I don't like that one very much. It's too high maintenance. You have to constantly clear the flooded coil and clean it out. I'm going to take out its 18650 battery and put it in a variable mod, probably the Pico or Pico Mega and then toss the eGo AIO into my junk drawer. You're not allowed to bring vape supplies into Mexico. I'm going for a month and a half this winter so I may resurrect the AIO. If I lose it it's no great loss.
I saw a mod that had a built-in tank and also would accept an external tank. I forget what that one was though. I thought that might be a good option too but I'm not really that interested.

Hi Chuck if you have luck with those tanks than you could buy the Pico(or mega) Without the Melo tank. The Melo is a nice tank but about 2ml of liquid, It burns thru liquid pretty quickly! It is that the whole kit is just a few dollars more and nice to have a spare tank or 2! The problem is that you will be buying different coils which can get expensive. That is up to you. I have a Kanger NeBox and I love how that vapes, so if you are happy with those tanks, just buy the Pico alone.
I am not a fan of Joyetech- I don't like their coils, flood or taste bad- I had the eGrip OLED for about 4 months and it started firing on its own, would turn off at 10 sec and turn back on, I removed the coil and now it sits broken! Joyetech replied that it is my problem! I am still using a cheap istick 20 for almost 2 years and take care of my gear. That other one - All in one was the Evic AIO- I would rather have the Kanger Cupti- since I like my NeBox so much! I really like the Kanger coils!
I also like my Aspire Atlantis coils and only buy tanks that take those.
Have fun on your Mexico trip and yes take the device that is no great loss! I think you will like the Pico and if you use it with tanks you already love, it will be great for you! Wait till you see how small it is!

Wow! I almost bought one of these Nano kits and I thought I'd check a YouTube review first. The guy was saying how great it was and then he just off-hand said something that made me aware that Eleaf is actually a Joyetech company. I outright hate the eGo AIO I bought for the exact same reason, spit-back and bad taste. When you start a new coil it tastes like burning wires for a long while and the thing spits and gurgles all of the time. You have to "purge" it constantly. Thanks for replying to this. I'm going to look at something else, maybe Pioneer or Tesla or the old faithful....Kangertech.

The Aster looks like a coffin, it would make a good halloween mod... I don't know anything about the Aster and don't own a Pico but would choose it between the two based on all the glowing reviews it gets on this forum.

The Pico geats great reviews and maybe OK since you will only be using the Battery- not the tank!

Yea a weird design- I won mine or I would have never purchased! I do like the Pico - don't what they were thinking with that design for the Aster- makes it top heavy and tippy kinda like the Wismec Presa another weird design.

Has anyone tried the Tesla 80W TC with the Tesla Tornado tank? This one I could get for under $40. Who makes Tesla? How's their reputation?

I think the Pico is a fantastic mod-I own many mods, and it gets a lot of use, even over 'better' mods.
It is small, perfect for taking out with you when you don't fancy holding a huge box mod, and the TC works well-I have mine paired with a Diablo tank at the moment with a TI build, and it gets a lot of use.

I would go for the Pico unless you want to use tanks that are larger than 22MM in diameter.

It's just become a thing of principal for me now. I was sold on the Pico until I found out they're made by Joyetech. I've been burned by these guys before and their customer support is non-existent. If I buy a mod that turns itself on in the middle of the night and causes real damage what are they going to do about it? They won't even back a stupid $30 AIO. I'm thinking maybe Pioneer or Tesla or Kanger now. I'm still looking. I'm more careful with my purchases now.

I have never used the Tesla Products. I only see reviews for 60w and 100w are you sure it is 80w? I think tesla is made by Tesla Cigs?
That battery is an internal 3600 mah battery for the 60w- not a removable 18650. The tank looks nice but the juice holes look pretty small on the coils.
The 100w is an internal 4500 mah - not removable 18650. I really like removable18650 battery mods, because once an internal battery reaches its life span, and dies you lose your mod- how long that takes to happen could be 6months or 2 years, unknown? When an 18650 battery dies, you can buy another and still have your mod(unless you break it)
I have 3 Sigelei Mini book kits 40w- love these and the X tank takes Aspire Atlantis coils that are excellent in my opinion! I also have the Sigelei 75w Oni too and still use the Sigelei X tank with that too! Don't let this price fool you- this is a well made kit! I bought 2 white and a silver. These are brand new in the box and this company shipped fast!
http://121vapes.com/shop/sigelei-mini-book-40w-tc-full-kit/
These are way bigger than the Eleaf Pico which is so tiny and is 75w and love using this and it works great and has a removable 18650 battery!

Whatever you decide- just watch some you tube reviews and that will help you!

I am not sure too many companies will help you after the sale- you may get lucky with a better store warranty from some of these online sites. Some vendors have a 30 warranty only while some others have 90 days. Sorry about your Joyetech AIO- I lost my Joyetech eGrip OLED which was more than $50.00 after only 4 months, and yes Joyetech was no help, but I hear the same about Kanger too! They said I must have gotten ejuice in the control panel. User error, which may have been because that thing was so leaky- bad product- many complaints.
My Kanger Nebox has the same reputation, but for months and months it works like a champ!
I don't like the Joyetech coils either!

I don't care if Kanger provides customer service because I've never needed it.
The Tesla does have a removable battery and the coils have big holes on the Tornado tanks. Here's a link to that one but it looks like they don't ship to Canada. :-(
https://www.elementvape.com/tesla-80w-tc-starter-kit-w-tornado-tank
The Sigelei looks good too and cheap. there's no specs though on that page.

Something seems to be wrong with your link. I will try later!
Some angry customers with Kanger after the Nebox(LeakBox) fiasco! Again they are told user error! I wonder if Kanger fixed that since I do not have any leaking issues with mine!

Chuck- the Tesla 80w kit looks very similar to the Sigelei Mini Book kit looks nice a such a great price! I don't know anything about Tesla, but maybe someone here does. I watch so many You Tube reviews which are helpful, but I think most reviewers give great reviews to almost everything, LOL!
Hope you find the perfect mod! Let me know what you decide on!

I can understand where you are coming from if you have had issues before, but I think you have been unlucky, and also treated unfairly by the sounds of things.
You can pick up a Pico for very cheap now, so even if it did break down the line, not too much is lost.

You mention a mod turning on in the middle of the night and causing damage-did this actually happen to you? If so, I understand avoiding Joyetech by all means-however, 6 of my devices in the collection are Wismec/Joyetech/Eleaf, and I have not had an issue.

My fiancee on the other hand, her Istick100W TC auto fired and set fire-this is the only time in the history of us vaping something like this has happened. It has not put me off of Joyetech though, as even Saumsung phones have set fire recently.

EDIT: It was to the top left of the inside of the mod that caught alight- it could of been the battery that failed but it was using 25R's and I am always inspecting battery wrappings (I handle charging and batteries for Cheyenne), rewrapping when needed, and it did not look like a full on thermal runaway incident, wattage was set at 27.5W, not sure how long the auto firing had been going on but when I come into my room it was doing so, then I noticed the flame.

Wow! That's what I'm talking about! You could lose your whole house to a cheap mod. I think I'll steer clear of Joyetech for now. If I were to lose the faulty Joyetech mod no big deal. If I were to lose my house though....
It's not happened to me but I searched on the internet about issues with Istick mods and found several incidents reported. The response from Joyetech was just what you would expect...none. I searched the internet about spitting and gurgling with the AIO after I'd bought one and I found more than a few reports of this. Not most people but lots would get it. With my luck with Joyetech I wouldn't risk buying a potential fire hazard.

I can see your reasoning, but I kind of meant it can even happen with big manufacturers of more expensive items, like Samsung, for example, and not just Joyetech-although the customer service you have experienced (none) is bad.

Is it a particular small mod you was looking for? I have a Tesla nano that is really nice, I don't usually like built in batteries, but it is a solid, nice little mod :).

Really @conanthewarrior glad that no one was hurt and that your house is OK! I caught my EGrip hissing and it was turn off and on by itself, Thank God that it was not in my purse, I have removed the coil and now sits broken on my shelf- I should put the coil back in and take video. What scares me is that it is an internal battery- no way to remove the battery!

@chuck333 if you want a great mod, I would watch PBusardo on You Tube- he goes thru all the specs, pros and cons!
here is a "mini marathon"

Yes it was quite lucky-I live in a bungalow so the mod and batteries went out of the window (I live down a quiet road, no one else would be near so no potential to hurt them). Looking back the way it was burning, I guess it would of went out itself-but you never know, and it is a scary thought.

The Egrip sounds bad doing that, I would get rid just incase you forgot about the issue, I know this is unlikely but like you say, with a non removable battery and if it was in your purse, things could turn out quite bad.

Yes, not good when you get a faulty piece of equipment and the large company doesn't stand behind any warranty! All I can say is do your research, which is hard because you bought the Joyetech AIO based on so many glowing reviews and for you - you have a bad experience with AIO - really hard to know really what is good or bad!

Actually I look a bit like Testa, same goatee, about the same age, maybe a bit older. It's funny though. I'm not an obvious hick though. I'm a stealth hick.

It's just luck of the draw, I think, with any manufacturer. I'm sure people can tell you stories about all of them. I'm a once burned, twice shy person. I bought a Kanger and had great luck with it. Others might not have. I bought a Joyetech and had no good luck. I'm still using the AIO occasionally. I clean it out good and don't do any heavy hauling with it. I use the spiral MTL tip with the 0.5 ohm DL coil. That cuts down on the spit-back a lot. It doesn't taste that good though. If I fire up my Joyetech and vape for five minutes and then put it down and fire up my Subvod, with the exact same juice, the first puff is like a total relief. The taste is just so much better with the Kanger. The vape from the AIO is about as bad as an analog cigarette. I bought another Kanger and I've had good luck so far. I don't much like the TC mode on the Subvod Mega though. It's too weak for me. Maybe it's regulating the temperature too low for my taste.

I doubt I'll play the odds and buy another Joyetech especially when people are reporting problems that could damage life and property.

Is there a Japanese or American company that makes these products? Probably you would get better quality and service from one of those.

I ordered this one. I'll let you know how it works out. Next up a new tank.....

http://www.gearbest.com/temperature-control-mods/pp_278093.html?wid=21
That is nice, and one mod I don't own in the collection- I do have one Tesla mod, which is the Nano, and I really like it, I hope you get on well with it.

I do a lot of ordering from Gearbest, and lately they have even been sending me freebies to review, so I can't complain- which shipping method do you use? I am in the UK, and go for British express, and items turn up within a week, the record was 4 days!

What type of tank do you think you will go for? Will it be an RTA you are looking for, or a tank that takes pre made coils? A nice tank to match the mods colour would be cool, although I don't always pair colours, SS and black looks good on everything I think :).

Looks like a nice mod, quite a bit larger than the Pico. Did you buy 18650 batteries? A separate battery charger? I use Samsung 25R in my mods, and I just bought a Nitecore @ ecig.com for $8.00( sold out) http://charger.nitecore.com/product/new-i2
I get my Samsung Batteries at Ecig.com, but there is a battery thread here that has other places listed for safe batteries.
You will need a cheap plastic battery case- never throw lose batteries in your pocket or bag!
What tank are you looking at? Aspire Cleito and the Evo get good reviews- I have the Evo extended Kit, so I can switch out the glass size from 4ml to 2ml. I have not used that tank yet, but it uses Aspire Altantis and Triton coils and I use those and love them!

I like to match Tank colors to the mod too! LOL!
I am here in the US and won the Aster thru a GearBest contest here- they shipped it Fed Ex and I got socked with a $20.00 FDA Admin bill thru Fed Ex, still waiting for my reimbursement from GearBest.
You being in the UK(how cool) would not be hit with this- and @chuck333 I believe he is in Canada wouldn't have this problem either! I hear both Fed Ex and DHL are adding this charge here in the US- Ouch! I will keep with US vendors that use USPS only!

I bought the grey mod because it would go OK with the black Kanger Toptank Mini I have. I'm looking at maybe getting another Toptank in Silver (SS). That would look OK too. SS tanks look nicer longer IMO. My black one is only like 3 or 4 weeks old and the paint is already scratched in spots. If you buy the Toptank as a stand-alone (not in the Subvod Mega kit) they include an RBA kit with it. I have to buy a tank where coils are readily available in the area or I would need to order them online all of the time. I would like to try the Tesla Tornado but I doubt I could get coils for it locally. Any good ideas for a tank that doesn't use the same coil setup as the eGo AIO does and would have commonly available coils? I have an 18650 battery that I have in my AIO. I don't know off hand what brand it is. It's yellow, if that helps. I guess there's different output ratings on different 18650 batteries? I see some mods take 18650 & 26650. What's the difference? I don't know much about batteries unfortunately. I got that Tesla mod for just over $20 US and today I looked and they're just over $25. Maybe my price was a mistake.

Either way that is a good price for that mod- yes the SS tanks hold up pretty good and would look nice as well as your black tank on the gray mod!
Since you really like Kanger- get another Kanger Tank- easy for you to get coils and you like them! Nice to have back ups! My only experience with Kanger has been the EVod2 tanks( when I started vaping along with the eVod batteries) I still use the tanks with the Innokin iTaste 3.0 vv/vw I have and now my Nebox( which I love) vapes great and my favorite device and the SSOCC & OCC coils are awesome for me!

I'm not complaining. I got it $5 cheaper than today's price. ;)

I'm thinking another Kanger too but I thought I might venture out. Where can I get a crash course in batteries?
