Don McLean wrote and sang American Pie.
The song reflected how times where changing and played tribute to his hero Buddy Holly who died on Feb 3, 1959 in a plane crash in Iowa.
Ritchie Valens, and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson were also on the fateful flight.
The song also reminds me of a time in my own life.
Now all this is not to bring everyone down but a time to enjoy some music so post your favorites.

I have too many favorite songs but since you brought up Buddy Holly... I absolutely love his music! I have a collector box set that had every song he ever recorded including the first ones as the "Crickets". My favorites are Peggy Sue, True Love Ways, Everyday, Not Fade Away, Maybe Baby, Oh Boy!, and cant leave out That'll be the Day...Dude revolutionized guitar playing in my mind (Oh boy! was one of the first songs i learned to play) and i hope his music lives forever!

I prefer the version on Made In Japan (with Ian Gillan) but I saw this live on TV the day of the show.
I was a Die-Hard Deep Purple fan already but had never seen anything like this before.
