FA Joy must be addicting

I'm never going to use this flavoring in any future recipes. So many people have different reactions to it. Some say it tastes like flat beer, sweaty socks, some say funnel cake. I say Unicorn Queefs. It's a very useful flavoring when used right, but it's so niche that you can often just use other flavorings to do the same thing with better results.

I find it particularly funky when tasted alone. But in HIC's recipes it comes alive - and I don't believe there are any standins that would give the same flavor!

It is a weird flavor. When used at like 0.25% then it seems to be OK'ish. But at that point a person can probably almost just leave it out lol. I haven't had hardly any luck with this one either, I'm one of those flat beer people when it comes to Joy :( :(

I am in the same club, Joy is definitely something a DIY'er can go without even in recipes that call for it. Even in HIC's Strawberry Cotton Candy it has been steeping a month and is about to go down the drain, Strawberry's and flat beer is just not very good.

I'm sure it is. I usually ask about something, it has to have 5 stars, and it has to taste very good on it's own before I buy it. It just saves a lot of time and pretty sure it will taste good. Although I have seen some concoctions that you would not think were to be good, good.

I have 2 and 3/4 10 ml bottles left I will probably unload cheap or trade for something but not sure if it's really worth the shipping and hassle, agreed with the flat beer taste though it's a weird one...

I find it helps with yeasty, bready, malty type mixes. It also works great in my Froot Loops from scratch recipe, but that has 10 flavorings and it finds it's in way nicely at 2%. Other than that it can be quite dry to me as a stand alone or in mixes with only a few flavorings.

Maybe I just don't have enough experience drinking flat beer (or beer in general) for my mind to make the association. I get a sweet and cool flavor out of joy, almost like powdered sugar, with a hint of fried pastry.

I can sort of get that but at the same time that is a little like what stale beer tastes like as well. Sort of reminds me of Budweiser which is not a beer I care for but will drink when offered at social events.

I only have 10 ml so I will keep it around just in case. I can see using it in cases were you might be trying to dull down another ingredient but it should be used in very small amounts as it is powerful.

Overall though if you don't have it I don't think you will ever miss it.

That's sounds like a good use for it, can come in handy. I am sure it will come in handy as well if your making a coronita margarita :D

Would you mind sharing this said Froot Loops recipe...I'm one who so far enjoys the Joy and also Cereal vapes, so I'm very intrigued

Sure. I'll go ahead and post it in the recipe section. This is one of those always in progress recipes but my latest is very tasty.

Seems to me like it gives breads and baked goods a yeasty flavor which is kind of reminiscent of that flat beer aroma. Doesn't seem to be much else that will do that.

I say this because most of the new posted recipes seem to have it. I don't have it. Heard some bad things so I haven't bought it.

I believe it got a lot of traction because it was the NEW! flavor from FA. I picked up a bottle (of course; it was the NEW! flavor) but I've not yet cracked it open.

To me, it adds a nice pop to bready desserts, donuts, fritters, and even cookies. But only at 1%or less. Anything over that all I get is stale beer. But I tried my cookies without it, and they were bland and dull. Also sweetens a little. I would love to try a recipe with over 1% that actually works, not sure it exists though. ..lol

Check out HIC's Strawberry Cotton Candy over in the recipe forum. 2% Strawberry and 2% Joy. Vaping it now and not getting stale beer.

Joy is making me sad. I was super excited to try it, and it has not turned out the way I'd hoped. I do not get cotton candy or even funnel cake. I absolutely get yeast/beer taste. I do not like beer. I did the strawberry cotton candy recipe but all I taste is yeast. I think 2% is way too much for my taste buds. It's amazing how many different perceptions can come frome the same flavor.

Yeah, it is weird, I taste the same thing you do cmoore but others taste something different. I actually do like beer, just not stale beer.

I guess no joy for us :(

I've only liked it in a couple of specific recipes but I think it was used at like 1%.

This is one of them (really like this one)

Out of all the flavors I've investigated, Joy has the most conflicting opinions!
